I FOREWARD DeQuincy High School housed a unique group of young people for the year 1972-73, and this book is a record of the highlights of that year. 'Hie biggest things happened outside of classes, such as the lopsided presidential election, in which a few voted for the first time; the production of the first real newspaper; the experience of some having their first jobs; and relationships with each other explored in Satudray night dances with the excitement of Truckin's music, falling in love, sometimes for good, sometimes for heartbreak. Activity in planning programs, partying, com- petition in pep rallies and the rtomecoming parade, and the climax of the year, the combined Junior-Senior banquet and prom held in the gym-all of these made occasion for a date and a good time. Having a good time was what it was all about. Well, not quite, Many tears were shed, many angry voices were raised, and the year carried along at a varying rate, usually too slow, then sudden- ly too fast. Students shared love of big-legged jeans, plaited hair, Grand Funk, Three Dog Night, and Issac Hayes. Then on a night in May, one fourth of the student body was gone for good, and the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen moved up one giant step. Asn it was. Now the school is filled with a changed group, doing the same things, a different way. The spirit of '73 is gone forever, but a new feeling replaced it. It is not forgotten by those that shared it for nine up- and-down months, and many scars of the time will never be erased. The year could have been better, but it was a piece of life that flitted quickly by, and in the race that goes on, a few will turn back and wonder where that piece of life really belonged. A good year, a bad one, who can say. But it happened and four hundred and fifty will never be the same now that it is over. -Becky Chancey-
