THE DECALLA 1972 DEQUINCY HIGH EDITORS PAT WALKER SUSAN WISE COLLEEN DIETZ DEBBIE RUTLEDGE VICKIE BEYEAUX JOLENE BROXSON BELINDA PINDER DEBBIE SCARBER — TABLE OF CONTENTS Student Life Organizations Features Sports Classes Administration Advertisements FOREWORD The bell rang. Students who were grouped around the doors and water fountains, and even sitting out on the campus began their way to English, chorus, history, math, science, and the gym to begin a new day in a new year at DHS. The day was any one in many. The year was 1972. That was the year Edwin Edwards replaced McKeithen as governor of Louisiana; East Pakistan became Bangladesh; Nixon ran again for President; and, at home, DeQuincy's representative again won the state Junior Miss title; the Juniors won the Spirit Stick; the Tigers lost district at Natchi- toches; the school had a real band, plus a rock group; the chorus took festival, and the dress code kept changing until girls wore jeans to class. It was a year ot change and excitement. Students got involved with the school, the town, and beyond. Competition was at its highest because everyone wanted to be better. Personalities ranged from shy to loud, from bawdy to sophisticated. There were a lot of laughs and a few quiet tears. Talent emerged through guitars, batons, drums, pianos, voices, and the many plays produced that spring to raise money. The In things were bell-bottomed jeans with patches, smiley faces, leather purses, and ecology. The colors were red, white, and blue. The favorite say- ings were Try it, you71 like it, and I can't believe I ate that whole thing. The really cool people did not smoke, and most enjoyed going to church and the A W. Foods were pizza and Kentucky Fried Chicken. The favorite groups were Three Dog Night, Bread, and Santana. And then, for over a hundred seniors, it was all over. People had become friends, forgetting their differences. Girls had become wives, steadies had become engaged, and now it was time for large groups of them to make their last walk. And when the time came, many looked back and didn't believe it all, but others were too busy looking forward. By Becky Chancey Junior and Senior Banquet ACTIVITY! Basketball Awards Honor Society?
