To the faculty we leave a sense of accomplishment and possible relief after finally bidding us farewell. The Senior Class Dear B. J. February 6, 1978 1978 ----I can't realize it! It seems just yesterday that we were in the old annual room, getting together the PINE STUMP. Homecoming, Christmas holi- days, Career Day and finally Commencement--------farewells------tears----- I knew they were a great group, but even I didn't realize how great. Milton Peterson is now dean at Louisiana State University. Joyce Northcott is superintendent of nurses at the Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. My! My! They were all so ambitious! Charles Cooper has just been named The Olympic Star of the Year. Ora Lue runs the Toland School for Lady Wrestlers, aided by her husband and five daughters. Carolyn Barber has a school for training fashion models, and Ramona manages the Harris School for Boys in Canada. Norris Jackson is professor of History at Harvard University. Beverly Nichols is physi- cal education director at her ole Alma Mater. Claudette Smith teaches home economics in Texas. The teaching profession has certainly been enriched by old '58. The professions have been included, too. Wilton Wallace is not only a bril- liant lawyer but also our most able senator in D.C.Rousell Cooper, an eminent psychiatrist, has been Hollywood's most eligible bachelor for fifteen years. He's rich as Croesus, they say. Arthur Fluitt has just turned author . His latest best- seller is just off the press- How to Live Easy and Affluently. Burnadel Whatley is one of his biggest competitors with her grocery chain of Tribble's Fribbles. When she can stay put long enough to attend business! (Always running off to Europe or South America trying to keep up with her husband.) Wade Malone is the famous photographer of Watts of Hollywood Studios. His new twisto-vi- sion is quite the rage. Velma Stanley is using her culinary talent in Velma's Bakery, but her husband manages her and the bakery. Donnie Sue manages her home and runs Donnie's Beauty Shop. Eleanor Bevil has just been voted the Campus Mother of the year and is quite a social leader in Athens. Linda Carlson stars in her own TV production Love Eternal. She really deserved that Oscar last year. Esther Stovall and Velma Marcantel are really the Club Women of any year. They run the P. T. A. and the Garden Club, and always get the children off to school on time. They vie with each other to be voted the best dressed woman of the year. Sharon Fontenot is Mrs. America for 1976, and Billie Spears has been Miss Secretary of the U. S. A. for five years. Jane Fluitt stills holds her record as champion typist in Louisiana. All of them still look as young as their daughters. How do they do itl Jenelle Hodges is social Secretary for the first lady of Louisi- ana, even though her husband is one of New Orlean's leading doctors. They were voted Miss Secretary of De Quincy last fall. Ray Spikes owns his own department store called The Man's Shop in Chicago. A wonderful group now as always I I see why they always made so much noise down the hall-----they just had to CROW1 They were so proud of themselves and of each other. Now we are all proud of them. Nothing succeeds like suc- cess. It is wonderful that they are so generous with their gifts and talents. At their recent class reunion they presented the money to build the De Quincy Museum of History and a new Gymnasium. The formal opening of these buildings will be quite an event at DHS next year. The Bruces will fly up from Miami, and the Pharises will have returned home from their tour by then, I hope. A year around the wordsworld. Imagine! I am asking that you come out as my guest for the occasion, it will be wonder- ful for all of us to be together again. Like old times! Do come. Sincerely Here it is! - we finally made it.
