Below: Reading students view a filmstrip. Junior and Senior English students participated in a career learning center during the second trimester this year. The career study, provided by the Region Service Center, offered a tremendous amount of information about specialized fields, occupational temperaments, and col- lege requirements. The students worked at a series of ten learning stations to complete requirements for a grade contract. Sophomores again viewed a full-length film entitled JULIUS CAESAR, and freshman students attended a live production of THE MIRACLE WORKER at the Tarleton State University Theatre. Reading was offered this year to any student wishing to increase reading abilities. One foreign language , Spanish, was offered this year. In Spanish I as well as in Spanish II , students study not only the Spanish language , but also Spanish-speaking nations. I , C l

E ----.:i.kk A 1' DHS students interested in business careers are offered typing, book- keeping, general business this year. Bookkeeping students learn to keep books that resemble those in a real business by working on practice sets. In typing, students develop their typing skill through the use of records that dictate to music. General business students learn to manage a budget, take care of checking and saving accounts, and fundamental bookkeeping. They also try their hand at buying and selling stock in class. ' Last year's typing team , Sammy Holland , Shirlee Chupp, and Cindy Buckley, won De Leon's 31st consecutive district championship. This year, the Science Department offered students chemistry , biology, and physical sci- ence. Chemistry. the science of properties and changes in matter, involves both paper work and performing labs. Biology is the study of living things. Biology students dissected and studied animals. They were also required to prepare an insect collec- tion. Physical science, taught by Mr. Curbo, examines the properties of inanimate matter and energy . Besides studying basic chemistry and physics, physical science students engaged in building electrical projects for open house.
