SPANISH CLUB. THE DE LA SALLE SPANISH CLUB WAS FORMED PRIMARILY TO INSTILL A BETTER UN- DERSTANDING OF THE SPANISH LANGUAGE TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE PURSUING STUDIES IN SAID SUBJECT. BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPREHEND COMPLETELY MOST OF THE CUL- TURES AND RAMIFICATIONS THEREOF THAT MAKE UP THE SPANISH LANGUAGE IN THE TIME ALLO- CATED' TO THE CLASSROOM, IT WAS FELT THAT A SPANISH CLUB WOULD BE THE IDEAL VEHICLE FOR FULFILLING THIS NEED. SPANISH CLUB OFFICERS INCLUDE PRESIDENT JERRY NEGRETE, FIRST VICE- PRESIDENT TIMOTHY JACOBS, SECOND VICE-PRES- IDENT JOSEPH AIELLO, SECRETARY ROBERT JOHN- SON, TREASURER RUSSELL NIZNIK AND THE MOD- ERATOR IS MR. PAUL P. MAGALLANES. SINCE THE SPANISH CLUB WAS NOT ORGANIZED UNTIL THE FIRST PART OF NOVEMBER, ITS FIRST ACTIVITY CEN- TERED AROUND A CHRISTMAS PINATA PARTY TO WHICH ALL DLS STUDENTS AND FACULTY WERE INVITED. STUFFED IN THE PAPIER-MACHE DOLL WERE NOT ONLY THE TRADITIONAL GOODIES BUT ALSO GIFTS AND MONEY. OTHER ACTIVITIES IN- CLUDE: WRITING LETTERS IIN SPANISHI TO PEN PALS IN LATIN AMERICA, LISTENING TO TAPES AND RECORDS, AND READING SPANISH MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS, COMIC BOOKS, ETC., THE LATTER BY THE COURTESY OF BROTHER JOHN CUNNING- HAM. A JUNE TRIP TO LA MARGARITA RESTAURANT, ON THE NEAR NORTH SIDE OF CHICAGO, TO PAR- TAKE OF ATYPICAL SPANISH MEAL,WILL CONCLUDE THE ACTIVITIES OF THIS YEAR'S SPANISH CLUB.
