De La Salle s Athlete of the Year Paul Burke Faster than a speeding panther, More determined than a Wild dragon, Able to side step a fish Without any effort, Look! Look! At the finish, lt's a train, It's a car, No, it's Super Burke! Paul Burke has obviously been the super star of the DLS Track and Cross Country teams. This fall in Cross Country he was undefeated in C.A. L. dual meets as Well as being selected to both the All East Bay Team and the All Northern California Team. During this spring he proved him- self again as a superlative track athlete. He placed second in the ZA Division Finals which sent him to the North Coast Finals where he placed a solid fourth. From there he traveled south to U.C. L.A. for the state meets where he ran his fastest race, a solid 4:16:07 in the mile, but failed to make the finals by one place in his heat, and had to settle for a fantastic twelfth place. Paul Burke, as his hurculean accomplishments verify is obviously the Athlete of the Year.

Junior arsity Soccer Although there is not a C.A.L. junior varsity soccer division, De La Salle's LV. Spartan's would have undoubtedly captured the title if it existed. Consistant halfback play from Vic Alemania and excellent coaching from Mr. Stocking led the team to a 6-3-l overall record. Fine seasonal performances from Dan Rosenburg, Dave Rettew and Phil Figone also aided in the overall effort. Despite disappointinglosses to Dublin and Livermore, the J. V. Spartans enjoyed a fine season by defeating Berkley, Granada and john Muir. The varsity is already planning on successfully defending it's C.A. L. title with the use of these players next year. The addition of Vic Alemania, Dan Rosenburg and Phil Figone to an already strong varsity crew of Matt Kelly, Curly Lynch, Brian Serafino, Grant C-olnick and Claudio Rosig will strengthen the schools hopes for a repeat of their title surge. Look for De La Salle's Spartans to capture both soccer titles next year! FK W :aim ' Soccer coaches make better lovers.
