The famous Brother Adiutor was the founder and ever since that day. sixty years ago. De La Salle has not failed to be a true founda- tion of complete leaming for young christian gentlemen. We are extremely proud of our school on its 60th Anni- versary, and are fortunate and thankful to be numbered among those who can claim De La Salle as our school . Brother L. Joseph, F S. C. x 44 l F We also salute you, Mr. Iohn T. Hillock, as the Ioe D. for the class of 1950. Your fellow classmates have chosen you as representative of what a De La Salle man should be. By your exhibition of activity, loyalty, leadership and sincerity you are a personification of Mr. De La Salle. They spent their time coaching our Meteors. and the final results weren't a true indication of the great effort with which they fulfilled their duties. Although this season was not a winning one, our tighting Meteors experienced their share of thrills . . . we hope that in years to come De La Salle will be represented by them with as much spirit as this years squad had, For the second successive year the squad trained during the lldog-days ot August . . , this year the camp was on the campus ot St. Marys College in Winona, Minnesota . . . our tirst game was with De Paul, last seasons South Section Champions . . the Meteors rallied tor l4 points in the second halt after the Demons had scored three quick touchdowns , . . our scores resulted from passes, Le Boy Evans to Si l-landzik and to Bill O'Malley. The next game '.-.fzth St. Philip was highlighted by Bob Crowleys sparkling reception of LeRoy Evans' pass . . in the Mt. Carmel game we were plagued by injuries and bad breaks . . . the Meteors scored against Leo during the first tew minutes of the game on Blair Keatings run from the famous guard around play. We fought hardest against Fenwick, the out- standing team of the Catholic League . . . we scored three times . . . Bill O'Malley, Keating, and Martin carried the ball over for TD's . . . our team showed it could play when it wanted to, We were handed an upset by an underrated St. Elizabeth eleven . . . the score, l9-l2, reflects the closeness ot the game . . . Evans' long run tor a touchdown put us ahead . . . O'Malley plunged tor our other score. ln a bitterly waged contest we scored once Handzik up for a pass. Reason? The call for Midgets had gone out. lOU lads responded. Here at DLS the Midgets have been a symbol of hard, sharpshooting basketf ball by fast, small fellows. ln the past few years, under the Leahy-type coaching of Bro- ther I. Richard, the Midgets have established phenomenal records, Like N.D,, we have been refused games with some grammar school var- sities, and that when they knew we use only 5' Mikans. Also like Leahy, Brother Richard compiled the amazing number of 38 wins and 9 losses, with last years hiah point shortiez. His being in Rome has caused the lunior Teams in basketball to lie dormant. But the Midgets ao victoriously on under the shrewd, smiling coaching of Brother Sebastian. Brother had these shifty lads back from the '49 team, Tuck Moody, lerry Brady and ferry Yucuis. Those hot-shot twins, lim Murphy and Ray Feiner played Flys, Valuable newcomers to the Mid- get squad were Ernie Gagliardo, Ray Blattrier, Whitey Schroeder, and lim Bird, The Midgets have been of incalculable value to basketball at DLS. When the varsity was having trouble the Midgets were trouncing all comers and every time their victims were inches taller, Those who took their early training seriously went on to be of value to the varsity and the school: Putlak, Bob Flanagan, Entre-ss, Gritiin, Garvey, Gene Murphy, Chick Flanigan, and Bill Trail, played Lights this year. Scios and Pullano played luniors last year, Bill Quinn took up football successfully. Ganzer, Aldrich and Mr. lohn Hillock beccme expert referees and managers. Brother Sebastian and his 49' '50 squad kept up Midget traditions this year, as the partial list testifies.
