The ensuing close-fouaht battle was played in sultry weather and found us on the short end of a 20-12 score. Bill O'Mal- ley's running was the bright spot in the game. At Key Branch Stadium on the following Sunday, September 19, our Meteors won their first game of the campaign from St. Mel 18-13. The half-time scoreless tie was broken when Bill O'Malley and Leroy Evans did the scoring for us. Hopes were high as we opened the League season against Leo, but Wages runback of the opening kick-off immediately put us on the defensive, With several regulars on the bench nursing injuries, we dropped this one 2541. On October 3 we won our first league vic- tory from the lronmen of St. Elizabeth. Blair Keating was on the receiving end of passes tossed by Don Mavar and Bill Olvlalley to give us a 12-O victory. We dropped our next five games to Carmel, Rita, Madison, VVeber, and De Paul. Weber ended the season in a tie for the South Section Championship, but they found us a very tough foe. For the first time in weeks we had a full squad free from injuries. Leroy Evans was the spark-plug in the initial drive which carried us 33 yards to a touchdown.
