ISLANDS TREASURE Everyone is familiar with stories about buried treasure, about maps that show where it is hidden on a far away desert island. We all know that whoever, after a long and hard search, finds the gold or diamonds becomes rich and famous. But everyone may not know that all of us have also been on a treasure hunt this year, even though no one has found any gold ducats. Instead, it has given us some good friends, knowledge and many memories. Memories of winning the game, of good times at the dances or maybe of getting an llA on a big test. One of our common memories will be of a friend who was always there when needed, who listened to us and understood, who attended all of our games and who taught religion by living it. The 1982 Delta special commemorates Brother Martin Klietz, an important Island treasure. Delta 1982 De La Salle High School Minneapolis, Minnesota Volume XLV , . FALL MUSICAL IS HUGE itMARRY MEIW SUCCESS! PERNAMBUCCO -- UNBELIVABLE TOWN . . . In Victorian England college men could not have female guests in their rooms without a chaperone. Charley Wykham and his roommate wanted to have their girl friends over for lunch. Charleyts aunt from Brazil does not show up to chaperone, so Charley is forced to don a costume to take her place. He thus runs in and out of the play alternating the dual roles. In the process his girl friend gets mad and another man falls in love with him. However, as in all comedies every thing ends happily with the cou- ples united at the dance. This was a show that really kept you laughing and as one person said ttThere was never a dull moment . Scenes ranged from a college marching band to love scenes in the garden, to gossiping in the ladies dressing room. Because it was as much fun for the cast as for the audience all the performances were very well done. De La Sallets fourth annual fall musical was a huge success. Brother Chris directed the musical, Mr. Fleming directed the band, Mr. Marso- lek headed the committee that pro- duced the stage set, and Mrs. Roth was in charge of the costumes. 29 ttBut of course youtve all heardiw What is that scent you,re wearingiw Left: ttYou,re Donna Lucia? The Student Union is growing! This year there were thirty four active and hardworking members. Most classes had seven delegates and two alternates. These delegates are the ones who plan and organize class and all school activities. The Union is, however, always glad when individual students want to get involved and help with any of these activities. During the year the Student Union was responsible for painting the commons, putting a suggestion box in the Library, opening the gym in the morning and planning the school dances. Besides these things, they also organized Homecoming and Sno-Daze weeks and various fund raising activities. All in all the 198N1982 Student Union has been very successful. Deciding on coverage, getting photographs and writing copy were just a fw of the jobs the staff performed. With a new staff and new advisor, growth and training were two of the major goals of this yearts Delta. Mr. Denis Wadley, Advisor, and twenty eight staff members worked very hard to produce each of the monthly editions. Some may wonder Why a school newspaper is impor- tant. The Islander staff feel that they are helping to keep the students informed about what is happening in the school and that the paper is one of the places student opinions can be shared. This yearis angel-making contest and sled races took ad- vantage of our twenty plus inches of snow. The most appropriate activity for a Sno Daze celebration took place on Friday, January 15 when a winter storm cancelled the last days activities and the basketball game with Ben- ilde. After a lot of hard work by the students, faculty, and parents the final money count showed that $43,458.00 had been raised. This amount exceeded the goal set for this project. Students worked for two weeks prior to the actual festival selling raffle tickets for the $1000 grand prize. Each student needed to sell sixty dollars worth of tickets in order to get 2 free days. Even though sales lagged during the middle of the week, the students pulled through and won each of their free Fridays. Most teenagers dream of getting a Driverts License and owning a car. The Sophomores in Driver Education have found out that there is more than dreaming needed to reach that goal. After thirty hours of classroom instruction there is a written test to take to get a Driver,s Permit. Then there is six hours of ttbehind the wheelh training. Finally comes the chance to take the road test. Even when you pass that, there is still one more major problem to be faced before driving to the party . . . getting the family car. During the five day trip to Montreal Canada the music students, the music director, Mr. Scott Fleming and the adult sponsors Bro. Christopher, Sister Colette, Sister Lillian, Mrs. Fleming, and Stan Wolyniec spent a lot of time on the bus but they also saw a lot of beautiful scenery. High points of the trip were, of course, the performances at Bishop Baraga Central in Marquette Michigan, De La Salle in Ottawa and Montreal, the free time visiting in Montreal and the Visit to Niagra Falls. Even though the bus rides were long and it took a lot of work to prepare for the programs, everyone considered this trip worthwhile. In fact, the Music Department is busy making plans for the next trip! EL VIAJE A ESPANA - THE TRIP TO SPAIN- A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR ALL It all started on Saturday March 11th when, with hands full of suitcases and stomachs full of butterflies, 11 Spanish students and Mrs. Nigon reported in at the Twin Cities International Airport for the flight to Chicago where they joined the rest of the ISE tour. From all the giggling and squeals heard on the flight it was evident that this was the first flight for many. After a long overseas flight the tour finally reached Madrid on March 12th. There was a 4 day stay in Madrid. The other cities visited were Avila, Granada, Sevilla, Segovia, Malaga and some little ttpueblos in the region of Cadiz. This was where each student spent 6 days living with a Spanish family. Because they were forced to speak Spanish all the time, these were both the most difficult and the most rewarding days of the trip. This years trip to Spain proved to be exciting and fun even though it was rather difficult to communicate at times. All in all the trip was an adventure not to be soon forgotten.
