Once Upon A This year’s musical was based on an uproarious Broadway hit, the satirical version of an old fairy tale. It’s the “inside story’’ of what really happened to the famous princess who was so sensitive that she couldn’t sleep on twenty downy mattresses when one pea was placed underneath. There were many sub-plots, catchy songs, and much humor to entertain us on the way to the conclusion in which the kingdom is restored to order, all ends well, and everyone rejoices. The musical was performed Nov. 6,7, and 8. The cast sits on the stage while standing in front are others also important to the production. Left to right, first row, Mark Lien, Karen Dziuk, Laurie Paquette, Mr. Ted Marsolek, Mr. Scott Fleming, Brother Chris Kavanaugh, Mrs. Sharon Roth, Tim Hart, Ann Jacob, Greg Kaiser, Greg Fimon, and Dan Kaiser. Row 2, Erin Renneisen, Steve Pumper, Mary Schneider, Greg Vos, A1 Romportl, Steve Delehanty, Eden Svendahl, Eric Mattson, Anita Hoffman, Tom LaDuke, Dave Johnson, Kathy Gulachek, John Meyer, and Mickey McCulloch. Row 3, Paul Foster, Laura Hoffman, Michele Friestleben, Bill Moore, Amy Mattson, Phyllis Renee, Greg LeClaire, Colleen Sullivan, Vincent Wallander, Bridget Cassidy, Rita Billington, Dan Molumby, Pam Larson, Mark Sellors, Nancy Owen, Carol Owen, Maria Kauffmann, Andy Dols, and Kathy Willner. Brother Chris directed the musical, Mr. Fleming directed the band, Mr. Marsolek headed the committee that produced the stage set, and Mrs. Roth was in charge of the costumes. Many others were involved, including the band whose work was so important to the production of a musical. The Saturday evening performance was in the nature of a dinner theater, with the meal planned and prepared by Mrs. Kay Johnson. The meal was served in the Casanova Room, and afterwards the dinner theater audience adjourned to Room 120 to watch the musical’s performance. 28

tegina Wolyniec, Jay LcChapcIle. and lob Jacob take part in a soccer game. The cake-baking contest was won by Carol Owen and Eric Mattson. The cakes were auctioned off in spirited fashion. Chief competitors for the final cake were the football team and the band members. The band won! leaders presented each member of the football team with a yellow carnation. The Homecoming football game was played against the Holy Angels Co-Stars. Friday, October 3, at 4:00 p.m. De La Salle hosted the game at the Benilde-St. Margarets field. A good crowd attended to cheer the Islanders on, but unfortunately the final score was: Holy Angels, 27; De La Salle, 6. 27
