On November 25, 1980, four of De’s swimmers went to the regional meet at Southwest Junior High. Julie Salchert won two first-place medals and then helped Karen Je-sperson, Barb Brynstad, and Amy Eidem win third-place medals in a relay. Julie progressed to the state meet on December 5th. She didn’t win any medals there but did great just to be there and to get such good times. The team loosens up before a meet. The rest of the team did well in all the meets and should improve next year to win some medals. Although the team didn’t win any meets, its morale remained high the whole season. Coach Mark Salchert feels the prospects for the coming year are excellent with most of the team returning and willing to work hard to continue improvement. 22 Coach Mark Salchert gives a pep talk.
