BROTHER DANIEL This excellent mathematics instructor and chairman of the mathematics department does not deny the fact that he has nicknames, but he knows that any he docs have “vary with the des-criber. Brother states that he wants “to be adequately prepared to teach,” but his students know that he has achieved his desire in this regard. He is especially proud of the “pursuit of academic excellence in Advisory 202.” In his spare time. Brother enjoys “golf when possible, basketball when not,“ along with “plenty of reading and Mozart.” BROTHER PATRICK Brother Patrick, a very competent and accomplished instructor, is the head of the English Department. His interesting classes are made even more so by the occasional but timely bits of witticism that have become his trademark. Brother’s ambition is “to help others and his mild manner of teaching seems to have had its effect in this regard. He is especially proud of the “spirit” here at Dc. When not teaching English or Religion, Brother enjoys extensive but selective reading. BROTHER DOMINIC Brother Dominic, a devoted religious and biologist, is both Senior Vocations Counselor and moderator of the Glencoe Club. He lists “being a good teacher” as his goal in life, and his sincerity in this regard has left an indelible impression on those whom he teachers. Brother fondly (?) remembers Steve Grabow-ski’s untimely operation in the middle of football season. In an occasional free moment, Brother indulges in handball, photography and biological collections. 8

MR. JOHNSON This renowned Problems of Democracy instructor, usually the victim of many fond epithets and other descriptive adjectives, states in all sincerity that he has heard none of these nicknames this year. He is the perennial coach of the “B” basketball squad and the golf team, but his real ambition is “to rc-unitc the old ‘Ali-Baba and Swedish Angel' professional wrestling team.’ Mr. Johnson, a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish, numbers “planning the 1960 “bum shoot’” among his fondest memories at De La Salle. When not engaged in academic or extracurricular functions, he relaxes by playing golf and “shooting.” BROTHER J. EDWARD Brother Edward is one very busy man. He is athletic director, football and basketball moderator, and moderator of the Boosters’ Club. In fact. Brother says, “You name it and I’ve got something to do with it!” He is looking forward to the day when “peace and quiet reign in the locker room.” Nevertheless, Brother is presently content with the “cheerful, smiling faces” that greet him in the typing room. His spare moments are spent in either the locker room or the gymnasium. BROTHER H. FRANCIS Brother Fancis, moderator of the Senior Class and head of the Chemistry Department, is affectionately known as “Brother Wizard” or “the chief.” Concerning his ambition, Brother says he wants to be an excellent Brother, and excellent teacher, anti thus serve and honor God and save my soul.” This popular Senior religion and chemistry instnictor is particularly fond of “the wonderful scenery on and around the Island.” In time not spent in teaching or in shining his ripple-soled shoes, Brother enjoys reading and studying, golfing, and “molecular model building.” 7

MR. PAUL GRAF This colorful and popular member of the Senior faculty claims he has no nicknames but acknowledges that there are “probably plenty — behind my back. ’ Mr. Graf, a parishioner at St. Mark's in St. Paul, plans to go on teaching his traditional, yet unique, courses in Social Studies, Business Law, and Economics at Dc La Salle. In his few spare moments, Mr. Graf enjoys reading, studying, or just “walking and reflecting.” BROTHER J. OLIVER Brother Oliver, famous for his craft in Algebra, Geometry, Bookkeeping, and Religion, is also moderator of the Camera Club and Wrestling Team. Brother’s ambition is “To sec you all in heaven.” Particularly outstanding in his memory is the construction of the new addition. An avid devotee of photography, most of Brother’s spare time is devoted to this hobby. MR. DAVID BRESKE Mr. Breske is probably one of the most popular additions to this year’s faculty. Nicknamed “Salt” and “Leader” by those who know and love him, this clever humorist nevertheless states that he wants “to become a better teacher of mathematics.’’ Mr. Breske is a member of St. Kevin’s parish in south Minneapolis. In time not spent in teaching Algebra and Trigonometry, he is an enthusiastic participant and spectator of baseball. 9
