Theme By these words, Jesus Christ promised that His followers would possess knowledge of the Truth. That Truth was, of course, primarily religious; Christ sent His Apostles forth to tell the good news of Redemption to all the world. At the same time, however, the advent of Christ and the spread of His message inaugurated a golden age like that foretold by Vergil nearly a half-century earlier. The Christian spirit breathed new life into a decadent Roman culture; and when Rome itself fell, it cherished the finest products of that culture in monasteries and convents throughout Europe. That spirit has consistently inspired the finest philosophy, music, and literature in the world. In a liberal education we absorb the collected human wisdom of our forefathers as well as the priceless gift of Divine Revelation. The quotations at the beginning of each section are a mere sampling of that wisdom, both human and divine.
