♦ ♦ ♦ Unusually happy for the first doy of school, aren't they? Gathering of the clan after senior lunch: some to study, others to sleep and many merely to get their beauty rest. To Begin Autumn .... 54 . Winter ... 55 Twos in the fall of '54 That I place this memory test Of all the wonderful events And things remembered best. Opening day .. . the many friendships that were renewed ... memories that were lost but found again .. . confusion mixed with bewilderment ... the bang of lockers . . . Morning Prayers ... the Bulletin ... homework . . . new teachers . .. the smell of cafeteria food seeping into class ... the shout of chips coming from the canteen ... smuggled candy in the library ... the daily clean-up committee in the basement corridor .. . Hour and Half-Hour Prayers and the ever sleepy bell ringer ... long hours beneath the light of midnight oil ... a match of wits in some hard test . . . first report card anxiety .. . clubs ... assemblies ... play practice . . . Homecoming . . . selling buttons and tickets . . . dancing to the strains of Hugh Cardenas . .. Sunday afternoons at the game . . . victory cries and chants . . . anticipation and doubts . . . the final victory . . . championship . . . and the reign of victors supreme. These ore some of the vivid memories that will remain always. Even though time and events may alter the things we know, their memory will always remain in our hearts. Spring • • • 75

Brother Do Paul (Thomaj Kondrok, '49) of the Houso of Charity addresses mombors of the Benil-dus Vocation Club. Remember this? ... A rainy September day ... September 3, to be exact ... year, 1951 ... place, 25 West Island Avenue ... If not, let's take a stroll .. down memory lane ... 1951 ... freshman year ... high school ... De La Salle ... big words to all of us ... And they meant a lot too ... a challenge ... and we met it... Four long years ... and we made it... The first day at DE ... some of us bewildered ... scared ... confused ... lost ... wondering what the Brothers were like ... making the inevitable mistake of Yes, Sister and not Yes, Brother ... Homeworkl ... we never had so much of it ... Gosh, that Latin was Blessed Benilduj Club mombors recoivo Holy Communion at monthly Vocation Mass. tough ... and that algebra ... Wowl... To top it off ... we were scorned by the upperclassmen ... looked down upon ... and known as the rabble of the rock ... Despite this... with a stout heart... and a strong mind ... we set upon a four-year campaign ... to conquer the Rock. 6
