 Thirty days, said the judge. We spent our first winter on the rock . . . and discovered how cold a place could be . . . especially at 8:15 in the morning ... but we were warmed by the Brothers' smiles ... if not by the heating system . .. Winter brought our gym games inside ... under the direction of Mr. Reinhart ... Remember his favorite expression ... All right, line up you guys ... but we always managed to sneak in some homework ... We also found how hard a semester test could be ... The cagers had a successful season . . . winning conference .. . but losing in the state finals, 70-57 ... A bitter pill to swallow ... Some of the memorable games were . .. Cretin 54-46 ... winning on their floor ... ocVc» Two buttons or sixty days told the seniors os Homecoming Buttons went on sale at north door of OE. 8

 End of day a» DE • not a peaceful icene. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow . .. your ion shall bo taught the basic element of English, Brother J. Matthew explains to Senior Parents. DE wallops St. Thomas, 61-0. Not much of o gome for excitement to judgo by tho Islander crowd. Fall was filled with many events in 1951 ... football games . .. homecoming ... dances ... clubs ... activities ... all new and bewildering to us, the naive freshmen ... Football .. . second in state . . . played eight games ... lost two . .. dropped an unforgettable one to Cretin, 12-41 . .. Then one morning we were nailed .. . by two big seniors . .. Homecoming button? ... Sure, you want one .. . and invariably we did ... We tomahawked the Tommies to the tune of 13-6 ... This ended a successful season for the Islanders ... and second place in the conference ... Remember Greg Hadley, Bill Gotz, Jerry Wright, Dan Albrecht . .. They were some of the stars on the team . .. Upon placing the pigskin on the shelf ... and hanging the laurels where all might see ... we turned our minds toward other things .. . namely, school .. . Algebra became an impossibility . . . Classes got sleepier . .. Mr. Karbo's submarines got bigger .. . Suddenly we began to fit ... into a well-planned scheme ... We were beginning to learn something. 7

. .. first time in 15 years . .. losing to Roosevelt 50-51 ... in the final two seconds .. . Some long remembered names .. . Ted Hall, Fred Sheridan and Jack Rowles . . . and with the closing of basketball ... the advent of spring. Spring ... Baseball ... the Karbomen ended with a 3-3 conference record ... a building year for the raiders ... Such names as Firman Janski, Jerry Meyers, and Dick Kuehl will be remembered well .. . One year was nearly completed ... we were almost ready ... to be accepted ... as full-fledged rockites . . . Suddenly ... a change appeared .. . We began to look like men ... DE men ... and we were proud if it ... An era in our lives was coming to an end .. . and we were proud of it ... Our frustrations were quelled ... Our shyness lost ... We emerged ... filled with determination ... rigor ... forwardness ... prepared to face the worst . .. another three years of confinement on the rock . .. but as we look back ... things were not so bad . . . The teachers .. . studies .. . sports ... and everything remembered best by you were all memorable events . .. Our freshman year came and passed . . . But the memories will always last. Blessed ore they who go around in circles for they shell be known at big wheels.
