1' ,,-.4 4 . ,Z V, f ., wb, , , ,sl ..f.-.l. gl Within the heart of each rnan of sports lies the burning desire to become victorious, to reach the pinacle of success in each performance. This victory came to us only insofar as we had faith in the teachings of our coaches and had learned to cooperate with the helps they had given us. So also in the game of life, victory will come to us only insofar as we have supernatural faith in God's teachings and learn to cooperate with His graces. He must be the coach of our team if we are to achieve victory in the game of life. Viewing all things then in the light of the star of faith , we will be prepared to meet with life's future problems, confident that with God's help and our cooperation the victory will be ours.

l0!0l1.5il'Q fillfll Backg J. Misterovich, centerg A. Vander Meulen, tackleg WATCH THE END! Coach Joel Mason, assisted by Jerry Boroski give sideline aid. This year, as in the past, our football team under the capable direction of Coaches Tom Bonino and Joel Mason turned in avery fine record. We started off unusually well by scoring 122 points while leaving our opponents scoreless. Among these our proudest victory was against St. .Toe's whom we licked 32-0, thus regaining the traditional oil can. In spite of the fact that we held our opponents scoreless in five consecutive games, our Soup Bowl dreams crashed when we fell victims to St. Anthony's powerhouse. The very last game of the season earned for us the Tyska Trophy when we beat St. Ladislaus 38-6. All in all it was a season that will long be remembered by the Pilots ol De La Salle. They will always remember the terrible mud and rain that more often met them as they came onto the field, the exaltation that victory over St. Joels brought, the sadness that came with the sudden death of Norm Schmidt, the bitter disappointment of the loss to St. Anthony's. It was a season that commanded great sacrifices from all and yet gave little material comfort to any. Because the sacrifices were there, the student body can be justly proud of their very fine team and its coaches. UMPHH! A St. Ladislaus player goes down reluc- tantly. - 89 - G. Mayer, end, P. Tignanelli, Line Back, D. Madeley, tackleg L. Trotta, guardg M. Mclntyre Line C. Lucas, Line Back, M. Bolen, end AND AWAY WE GO. Tom Bentley clears the way for Sam DiMercurio
