ADMINISTRATION Ships Captain XX lff James M, Lipham was born August 10, 1927, at Fyffe, Alabama. He attended public school in LaGrange, Georgia, and graduated from the LaGrange High School After high school he attended Tennessee Wesleyan College at Athens, Tennessee, and graduated Cum Laude with the degree of Associate in Arts. While on active duty with the army in Japan during World War II he worked on occupational classification of enlisted men. Raturning fron the army, he attended the University of Georgia and received the Bachelor of Science Degree in 1951 with a major in chemistry and with minors in physics and education. With the outh eak of the Korean War, he was recalled to active duty and conducted research in the chemical laboratory of an army hospital. Be than returned to the University of Georgia in 1952 and completed the Master of Science degree with a major in Education. At the University he was awarded the following honors: Phi Beta Kappa, National Honarary Society, Phi Kappa Phi National Scholastic Society: Gamma Sigma Epsilon, Honorary Chemical Societyg Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa, National Educational Fraternities. Mr. Lipham served two years as chemistry and physics teacher in Tifton, Georgia, High School and as guidance coordinator of the Tifton Public Schools. In June of 1955 he enrolled at the Ohio State University and began working to- wards the Doctor of Philosophy Degree. During the past school year he taught Biology and General Science in Upper Arlington, Ohio, High School, and also served as critic teacher for students majoring in science education at the Ohio State University. Mr. Lipham came to DeGra.ff in July of 1956 as administrator of the local school. He instigated the six-period day in our school this year and is endeav oring to guide this school to a high scholastic level. 3
