Mrs. Brantner, this year, worked with the spe- cial class here in the afternoon. Upon resignation of a teacher over at El Camino she took the job as special teacher there. Mr. Whittaker taught the Mentally Handicapped this year. At the end of the first semester it was discontinued because of lack of funds, and he took over for Mrs. Brantner. This year Mrs. Winsor taught Remedial Reading and Spanish. Mrs. Winsor has been teaching at De Anza for twelve years. Mrs. Bowen has been teaching the educationally handicapped for three years here at De Anza. She got her teaching degree at UCLA: To the left top, is Mrs. Lofthus's guitar class. Introduced last year for the first time in our school district, the class has been a suc- cess. Students in this class furnish their own guitars and learn to read music. Miss Lorraine Culver taught English. Last year she was a student teacher for Mrs. Hyde and for Mr. Wallace. Mrs. Lauri Canady, qformerly Mrs. Roody taught Remedial Reading again this year. llama... X- Xessasw This year the ninth grade lawn became the ninth grade mudhole because of the discovery of a ruptured water pipe broken during the 1971 earthquake. New Classes Miss Arlene Clark, taught Issues Today, Minorities, Political and Economic Sys- tems. This was the first year the ninth grade students were allowed to pick what kind of Social Studies Classes they wanted. This year Mr. William Ha'kins taught many different kinds of English. This was the first year that 9th grade students were allowed a choice - one semester of writing course and one course of a literature course. Mr. Harkins entertained the entire school with the plays put on by mils olf PMS' ' The pictures to the left present De Anza's Drama Class Production, Perils of Priscilla. Mr. Harkins drama class play starredg Annette Mclfadzen as Priscilla, Bill Rock as the Villain, Yvette Copp as Miss Tylerg Scott Siatos as the herog and the school children were Brian O'Hagan and Cleette Carr and Tina Welton. The play was showing for two days in January and was the first dramatic production since 1963. 43 his drama classes.
