PRI CIP Most of us consider The Truth to be that 4 p whichWE believe to he truth. Yet so many times The Truth does not turn out to be that at all. There are those who have discovered that what once was The Truth, no longer appears to be The Truth when it is looked at in the light of the new experience. Truth is an intangible, multi-faceted under- standing for which each of us should keep search- ing all the days of our lives. I doubt that it was ever intended that we should completely find it in the space of a normal lifetime. However, he who fails to consistently look for The Truth in his day to day living may have missednthe reason for his existence. Mr. G uthrie, Principal fl? Here we have listed just a few of her many contributions. She was head of De Anza's Social Committee for fourteen years until this year when she didn't have enough time. She was the first teacher to teach Notehand at De Anza, and for that matter, anywhere in the whole Ventura District. When she taught typing, her classes were filled with as many students as she could fit in, even though she had to squeeze a bit. And last, but not least of her many talents, we believe Mrs. Ensign is one of the best teachers and counselors in the Ventura District. For these reasons we dedicate the 1971-'72 LA VENTURA DE ANZA to Mrs. Ensign, our special teacher. Mrs. Greene, our Attendance Clerk, is one of the busiest of all. She types the Absence List and takes care of all the school absences. ...feel i'.f4?! .. tw I b,tW iv? Mr. Bentz is one of our counselors here at De Anza. Mr. Bentz likes kids and tries to understand their problems. Other organizations such as the Student Council, Ninth Grade Organization, Social Committee, Year- book Staff, Girls' Council, and the Lancers have really worked hard and come up with great ideas to really help De Anza become the best. The Girls' Council sold See's suckers and various other kinds of candy to help pay for the pop ular Mother-Daughter Banquet. At the banquet this year they presented a fashion show sponsored by Montgomery Wards. The clothes were modeled by the members of the Girls' Council. Another ac- tivity of theirs was the Saint Patrick's Day dance on March 15. 22 Along with her other ambitious undertakings, Mrs. Post sponsored a Dance Club. The Dance Club performed for several programs such as: The Christmas Program, a P, T, A. Program, American Legion and the Enchilada Dinner. They did several types of dances including those from: Greece, Israel, Russia, Germany, Serbia, and Macedonia. The Israel dances are the favorite, as they are very graceful and lyrical. Others really live. A few exceptional individuals Bring to life such enthusiasm That they make it more worth living For the rest of us. Such a person was Eunice Reed. She loved people And people loved her. She loved doing worthwhile things And she kept at it Until she succeeded. Eunice was one of the people who brought To DeAnza this year A rebirth of school spirit. In the photo to the left Eunice dances in a football costume, while in attend- ance at the Freak- Out Dance. She was the organizer and captain of the DeAnza drill team. The music they marched by was the hup, two, three, four called out by Eunice. On Wednesday, December 8th, 1971, DeAnza 's flag flew at half-rnast. Eunice 'N' S Reed had been killed in an automobile accident. The following Monday many of us attended her funeral - so many that some had to stand outside. Mr. Sheb Wooley, western music recording artist, whose daughter Christy was in the drill team, said that he would write a song for Eunice Reed, be- cause of what she had done to promote goodwill among girls of all colors. Never before has there been such a year full of action. The Flip Flop schedule was really great. There were the organizations that really got with it: the Head Cops, Drill Team, and the Dance Club were all the first of their kind. We showed the other schools that the gang on the Avenue is really Neato Frito and knows how to run a school. It was so action packed and fun filled that it all went too fast. Never before has a yearbook staff had so much to cover.
