During this period I have several times been given the privilege of preparing a statement to students for use in our yearbook. I find it increas- ingly difficult therefore to emphasize those values which I consider to be worthy of pupil acquisition without repeating thoughts which I have offered to De Anza pupils in other years. As your friend and principal I always hope that I can say something that will in some way be beneficial to you not only now but long after you have left the De Anza campus. The qualities which are good and which are likely to be of most value to you who possess them tend to remain the same. I will again point to these. If you establish early in life a system of priorities in which you identify and rank those things that are of GENUINE importance to you as an individual, you have made the first step toward life enjoyment and fulfillment. If you are wise, you will not put possession of great material wealth as number one on your list. Financial success should have a place in your rank order scheme. However, if you put it above that which is spiritual, that which relates to personal good health, and that which has to do with a broad edu- cation, it is my belief that you have made a MISTAKE for which you will pay dearly all the days of your life.
