HOMECOMING Homecoming week began as everyone “flocked” through the halls dressed in camouflage. The excitement continued as the week followed with twinkie day, cool shades day, blue-white day, and dress-up day. All through the week various clubs worked non-stop to complete their mini- floats for the traditional homecoming parade. On the morning of October 23, the sophomore float won first place in the mini-parade, seniors won second place, and FTA won third place. Becky Simpson was escorted by Phil Simpson. Becky, the daughter of Russell Simpson and Nancy Lane, is Senior Class Secretary, Beta Club Treasurer, GCE President, and a member of Student Council. Phil, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Simpson, played offensive guard and defensive tackle. He is Senior Class Treasurer and is also a member of the French Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. 18

UP, UP, AND AWAY 1987 Following the parade, seniors were awarded the spirit stick. At 2:30 p.m. that afternoon Master and Mistress of Ceremonies, Steven Inman and Christi Estes, announced that the 1987 Homecoming Queen was Becky Simpson. Coach Davis crowned Jana Cunningham Maid of Honor. That night everyone’s hopes and dreams soared Up, Up and Away when the Dragons defeated Star City. What a wonderful way to end a wonderful week! Jana Cunningham was escorted by Chip Spears. Jana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Cunningham, is a Sr. High Varsity Cheerleader, a member of the French Club, Beta Club, FTA, Student Council, Annual Staff, and a Girls’ State Delegate. Chip, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Spears, played tailback and defensive halfback. He is Recording Secretary for Student Council, GCE Vice President, State Sergeant at Arms for GCE, and a member of the French Club.
