V  84 VCL.26 1 2 The secret of the great pyramid . . . Balance! Where's the paper, Scott? Invasion of the Littles Mixing of the secret weapon. Up to something again, guys? THE 1984-'85 Dragon Yearbook Staff went on a search to find all the ingredients that it takes to make a perfect year. One clue that we found during our search was the spirit that the DeWitt Senior Band possesses. Along with this we dis- covered that seniors add a lot of cheer to DHS life, while students continue their quest for knowledge. 4 Deeper into our investigation, we found that team work is a major contribution in making the school year great. Our Dragon Mascots gave us great happiness as they performed for all the Dragon fans. The cheer leader added spirit to our year, while the inner beauty of our student body gave us that special touch. With all of this, we made our decision. We had found the perfect yearl 5 The Three Stooges of unorganized crime. Susan Horton, DHS senior, 3rd runner-up Michelle Roberson, 1984 graduate of DHS, 4th runner-up The 1984 court consists of, (L. to R.) Michelle Roberson, Susan Horton, Chantel McCol- lum, Dikina LaCotts, and Kim Hord. Miss LaCotts was also chosen by the judges as the winner of the Most Personable Contestant award. 14 Far left, Let's hear it for Dikina! 16 With the arrival of October 5, 1984, Homecoming was the event of the year. The cheerleaders had a pep assembly at 10:55 in which the 7th Annual Miniature Homecoming parade took place. The Senior class won the spirit stick while the Art Club float won first place, the Freshman class took second place and the French club took third place. At 2:30 the auditorium was crowned with family and friends and former D.H.S. Homecoming queens. Mr. Larry O'Briant gave a speech on setting goals in life. The cheerleaders entertained everyone with a few spirited cheers. The excitement was building. Todd Barnes announced Melissa Cockrum, escorted by Newel Butcher, as Homecoming Maid of Honor. Christina Boyd named Susan Horton, escorted by Scott Smith, as the 1984 Homecoming Queen. 17 At 7:20 the 1984 Homecoming Court assembly began. At 8:00 the game began. With the game over the day had come to it's end leaving us with memories we will cherish forever. Miss Susan Horton was crowned Homecom- ing Queen for 1984 during the afternoon ceremonies on October 5. Susan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Horton. Her escort, Scott Smith, plays offensive and defensive halfback for the Dragons. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Danny Smith. : Miss Melissa Cockrum was named Susan's Maid of Honor. Melissa is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Cockrum. Her escort, Newell Butcher, plays defensive end and offensive tackle for the Dragons. His parents are Mrs. Cathleen Snyder and Mr. Paul Butcher. LARDY C’DCIANT SUPERINTENDENT CE SCUCDLS Mr. Larry O'Briant is serving his first year as DeWitt School District Number One Superin- tendent. He feels that being superintendent is the biggest challenge he has yet faced in his lifetime. The job is very time consuming and stressful, but the good qualities of a superinten- dent's job outweigh the bad, says Mr. O'Briant. The thing that Mr. O'Briant misses most is working directly with the students. He says that he misses them very much. Mr. O'Briant looks forward to serving the DeWitt Public School system now and in the future. Mr. Carvil Trammel, Assistant Superintendent cf Scheels Mr. Trammel has been the DeWitt schools' assistant superintendent for the past four years. He likes working here in DeWitt, and he feels the DeWitt school system is a very good one. 24 SCHOOL BOARD The school board is the judicial and legislative body for the DeWitt School District. It has the final word in everything that relates to the school. The board members work very hard in trying to make the DeWitt schools part of a better school system. Pictured from left to right: Mr. Terry Turner, Board Member; Mr. Carl Raabe, Vice President; Mr. Eddie Lumsden, President; Mr. Nelson Oakley, Board Member; Mr. Sam Vittitow, Secretary MIDDLE SCHOOL Jim Emerson has been principal of Middle School for eight years. The classroom is crowded with old friends - Each one you have shared something with — Those times will never be as great. Memories trickle through your thoughts as your mental scrapbook opens. Faces smiling, some crying, others just fade away. Remembering victories, beating the odds, and something only you and another know about drift aimlessly through pages of reminiscence. Recalling events you had long forgotten — remembering when and where. Each moment re-lived as you turn the pages. Your scrapbook now turns to a very special page, one trimmed in pride - the class of '85. Turning the page once more — an empty classroom. Those times will never be again. Compliments of GEORGE BENNETT PAINT AND FLOOR DeWitt, Arkansas LITTLE JOHN QUICK 946-2936 Hwy 1 and Second Street 223 We have now reached the end of our long search. Our mystery solved with the clues found throughout our journey. Clues like spirit, sportsmanship, kindness, and friendship solved our case. We had found the perfect year. As the year went by, memories were created that each of us will cherish always. The Seniors have come to the end of their journey also. They will look back upon these years as the best times of their lives. As our lives continue may we always remember our friends and the times that we have shared. The '84-'85 yearbook staff has tried to capture these times with pictures that will hold time still. We hope that this yearbook will always be special to you. To Mrs. Cunningham we say THANK YOU for your help. We couldn't have done it without you! Also we want to say yearbook staff, great job, you survived our complaining and pushing you all to the edge of insanity. We appreciate all you've done. Jerry West and Jeanne O'Dell 1985 Dragon Editors V May happiness be your friend. 224 □ □ □ □ Irown’i Groduoflon SuocMi ft Award Co 1410 troddn Si 72401
