IN THE LAND OF KINGS AND QUEENS... A tense moment before the game. I told you not to use this picture Student council captures facul- ty's attention. ■W- Iff TU k « WHERE THE MIGHTY In the year of our Lord 1982, our fairytale began. What were once our fantasies of the future are now memories of the past. DeWitt High School became our Camelot and its teachers our Lords and Ladies. Our kingdom stretched far and wide as we endeavored to spread our Dragon Pride ' DRAGON REIGNED SUPREME Our Camelot provided years of safety while its occupants molded our characters to fit life s fairytale. As time passed, our dreams of the future were rapidly changing into realities of the present. We would all too soon have to leave the protection of our Dragon and its kingdom. We would never again be able to return to the days of old. DHS would be merely a tale to tell to our children. 5 ARE ABUNDANT IN OUR KINGDOM 7 SENIOR CLASS ce add 8 Out JJ, ere OF ’83 CiaiS 5 c ower BL' iris lipped in silver daii Colt on RoyJ Liue and silv IVer on 9 OUR FAIRYTALE BOASTS MANY COLORFUL CHARACTERS NEW YORK, NEW YORK Stephanie Lumsden, 1982 Miss Arkansas County participates in parade. At ten that morning the cheerleaders had a pep assembly which included the Fifth Annual Miniature Homecoming parade, sponsored by the Student Council. The Sophomore float won first place. Spanish Club won second and Beta Club won third. At noon the sixteen maids and their escorts left school to go home to put on their suits and formats. At 2.15 the auditorium was packed with parents, friends, and former DHS Homecoming queens. Diana Graves gave a speech on patriotism. The cheerleaders entertained every- one with a pom-pom routine. The excitement was building. Mr. Jordan, De Witt Superintendent, named Dana Mannis 1982 Homecoming Maid of Honor. Crystal Newsom, 1981 DHS Homecoming Queen, then crowned the l982Homecoming Queen, Miss Anne Gunnell. The festivities were not over yet. At 7.-30 p.m. the evening assembly took place, and at 8:00 the game began. The DeWitt Dragons defeated the Dermott Rams, 21-6. The day has ended, but its memories made will last forever. And one was hammered in the ground by many a jolt and jan some frag- ments never have been found, they flew away so far. They found a stack of tawny hair, some fourteen cubits high; it was the half- back, lying there, where he had crawled to die. They placed the pieces on a door, and from the crimson field, that hero then they gently bore, like soldier on his shield. The surgeon toiled the livelong night above the gory wreck; he got the ribs adjusted right, the wishbone and the neck. He soldered on the ears and toes, and got the spine in place, and fixed a gutta- percha nose upon the mangled face. And then he washed his hands and said: 'Tm glad that task is done! Being a Dragonette is hard work and takes a sacrifice of time and an endurance of pain. The Dragonettes started the season with ten players, but because of an injury to Senior Lyn McEun, it finished with nine in playing condition. However, this small number of team members did not keep the Dragonettes from being a challenge to any opponent. The Dragonettes are respected in District 8AA for playing with intensity hustle and enthusiasm. The Dragonettes played more height this year with the shortest player being 5'4 . The Dragonettes are led by Coach Randy Gatling. Through his teaching and encouragement, the Dragonettes have proven that even a team with few members may be powerful. Coach Davis has led the Dragons to many winning seasons. Becasue of their quickness, jumping ability, and never - say - die attitude, the Dragons have gained respect from their 8AA Opponents. Cross DeWitt Arkansas 946-3016 Kenny and Vickie Edwards 193 Beginning with Once Upon a Time ... , every effort has been made to preserve the wonderful memories of DHS on the printed page. The accomplishment of this task has required the dedication and service of many people. The annual staff would like to express its sincere appreciation to those who have contributed to the success of the 1983 Dragon. Thank you to the advertisers for supporting us by purchasing ads-, to the kind patrons of our various fundraisers,• to the faculty and administrative staff for their cooperation-, to Mr. Larry O’Briant, our principal, for his help; to Mr. Jimmy DeVore for his assorted photographs; to Ms. Dianna Denton for the beautiful artwork on the division pages; and to the parents of the students of DHS. Many have devoted not only their own time, but much more to our annual; however, the staff recognizes the tireless efforts of one invaluable person — our sponsor, Mrs. Diann Cunningham. Thank you so very much ... Mom. our Merchants Qzj raftomen Our merchants and craftsmen differ much from their medieval counterparts. In medieval days merchants sold their supplies from booths in the street. They sold only necessary, practical items. These merchants advertised by hanging a herald or sign to point out their goods and services. Thank goodness that today's merchants advertise in school yearbooksI Looks Like Ya’ll Made It!
