Every one of us looked forward with anticipation to the ever-approaching sum- mer vacation when school cares could be forgotten and Shake- speare could rest once more in his grave. 1943 . . . FALL: At last, we were Seniorsg well, lower seniors. anyway .... We proudly sported the diminutive yet significant seventh form button .... We developed a reluctant respect for Ed- mund Burke who could deliver a speech covering seventy-odd pages Cand in small print, tool .... A seven-period day was inau- gurated .... FALL: We returned to Clinton after a glorious va- cation and were confronted by window-panes painted with chemi- cals that minimize splintering and prevent snooping during free pe- riods ..,. All of Clintons trophies and awards were removed to places of safety .... Our football team beat Roosevelt, lost to Seward, and was annihilated by Evander to the tune of 27-O .... Those were the times that tried men's souls .... The Senior military hats gave emphasis to President Roosevelt's proposal calling for the drafting of eighteen-year olds .... Refugees from Townsend Harris cluttered up our halls, but eventually they learned their place .... Morty Goldfarb, captain of the victorious swimming team, was elected President of the G. O. 1943 , . . SPRING: Sixth term was upon us, and we all firmly agreed with Macbeth that the first period bell is a knell that sum- mons us to heaven or to hell. , . . SPRING: SENIORSIU We could hardly believe that at long last we had arrived .... We purchased our combination tickets, appreciative of the bargain We were getting for only three dollars .... We received our Senior Civil War chapeaux .... Gee, they looked so nice when We voted for them .... But the undergraduates were impressed, and the girl friend isn't choosy, anyway .... Loud groans echoed throughout the school when We received our graduation photo proofs .... Still louder ones could be heard when we learned we had to take them back in person .... With Mrs. Whalen's return, the Magpie published another memorable issue ....
