tivel put on a record of a stirring marching song, and the faculty all filed out to the strains of De Witt C. While Knight MAX SHERRIN Cmost industriousl went to get the armor, the rest of the illustrious company gathered around Knight AARON COHEN fmost popularl and eagerly discussed the day's events. The armor arrived, and the faculty had just about donned it when Lady Prim- rose called excitedly to Knight-Major Frank and Lady Schapiro to stop for a moment. She hurried over with her wrench in one hand and a hammer in the other, tightened a loose bolt in Knight- Major Franks armor, and straightened a dented armor-plate in Lady Schapiro's modish pink and blue model. They thanked her in unison. After all, they said, we have a reputation to uphold. The company mounted their trusty steeds, and to a shout of Qnwardl by Knight Cohen, the brave warriors were on their way, They had been riding for some time when they caught sight of the missing pair in the distance. With swift riding they soon overtook the two. Knight Cushing sat ready to charge, reins in one hand, lance balanced on his head, and in his other hand a long- stringed yo-yo which he was busily operating. At this juncture, Knight ABEL MEEROPOL fhandsomestj shouted to the fair Lady Lowell, 'll'll save youl However, this chivalrous ggsture was doomed to failure, for the gallant Knight tripped over the dangling yofyo string. Knight Burns, upon seeing this glittering array of gallantry, said, What's all the fuss about? l've merely been explaining to the fair lady the principle of diminishing returns. 13 'X

Ciuurt anuritts The main castle of the De Witt Clinton School of Chivalry shone in the early morning sunlight. The castle resounded with the noise of clinking armor and boyish shouts of Kill 'iml Kill 'iml Suddenly, a great silence descended upon the battlements. Knight ARCHIE CUSHING fmost Versatilel left his jousting class abruptly, ascended the highest tower, and blew a high, clear note on his trumpet. The pitterfpatter of tiny feet could be heard as the members of the faculty hurried to the office of Chief Knight DOC GUERNSEY lmost belovedl who greeted them with a worried frown on his benign countenance. The last to ap- pear were Knight-MAIOR COLMAN FRANK and Lady GRACE SCHAPIRO Qbest dressed man and womanl who had just put the finishing touches on their morning toilettes, followed by Knight Cushing, who had found it a little difficult to climb down from his high position, When the roster was complete, Doc Guernsey called the meeting to order and said, Knights and Ladies of the Sacred Qrder of Clinton, Knight IEROME BURNS fmost testsl has disappeared, coincidental with the disappearance of Lady HELEN LQVVELL lprettiestl. We must uphold the glory of Clinton and find them. Lady INA PRIMRQSE fmost coopera- 12

Lady Lowell corroborated this statement, and on hearing this, Knight EFFINGHAM MURRAY ffewest testsl asked Lady Lowell whether she had found the discussion interesting. Before she could give the obvious answer, Knight DEAN EDMUND FOOTE fbest naturedl said, i'Come, come, gentlemen, let this bickering cease. Knight Burns is really a nice fella. Everyone agreed with Knight Foote on this point. The party returned to the castle, where they celebrated the return of the missing pair. Knight ARCHIE ISAACS fwittiestl amused the company with his sparkling repartee, and to make the occasion a momentous one, Knight Burns chanted the law of di! minishing returns. With this as a bedtime story, it was not long before all were asleep.
