A I - 1:21 I There are many people here at DeVilbiss who help to open the doors to learning and opportunity. For each new yearbook staff, the man with the keys is D. Norman Stalker, who has advised the Pot O' Gold since its beginning. For his contributions :ls a journalism ad- viser, Mr. Stalker was awarded the Gold Key, its honorary token, by the Columbia Scholastic Press As- sociation. This Gold Key is sym- bolic of his abilities, as he is an example of those who are willing to unlock the door for others.

Other doors, those to the outside, were blocked temporarily as plasterers used their hallways to hold sand and other supplies. Most swung open regular- ly, sending performers onto the stage, or the basketball team up to another victory, or, every day, Tads in to lunch. As we seek our education, a type of shelter, we find that there are many challenging doors to pass through. However easy it may be to enter the first small door as freshmen, we find many larger ones on the wayg ones which are harder to open, whose keys we must dis- cover. As we leave the last door as seniors we look back and see those we have openedg we look forward, with anticipation, to the closed ones ahead, for now we possess the se- cret to help us find the keys. Students cannot obtain an education by peeking through a keyhole, for the view of knowledge from outside is limited. The keys are there for the taking and will unlock vistas of learning. Beyond the turn of each knob, beyond the first step, across every new thresh- old, is the education that DeVilbiss offers its students.
