Robert Moses Power Dam. Power AuthoritylState of New York. nois Canal. This contains two locks, each of which raises us 42 feet. Then out from the canal and into Lake St. Francis, the end of which marks the beginning of the lnternational section. The first sight that greets us in this section is the magnificent span of the lnternational High Level Bridge. Cruis- ing under this, we reach the first lock of the section. This is the Bertrand H. Snell Lock. Snell was a member of the House of Representatives for 22 years and was the first to introduce legisla- tion in favor of a seaway. For twenty years he waged an unsuccessful war. Five days after his death on February 2, l958, this lock was named for him. By it, we are raised 45 feet. Largest Canadian tanker, through Wel- land Canal Lock. Toledo Blade. lust a little farther up is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Lock which also raises to the level of 45 feet. After this comes the Wiley-Dondero Canal, named for the men who sponsored the enabling legislation in our Congress. Last is the lroguois Lock which raises us 30 feet. After this we proceed up the river un- der the Thousand lslands lnternational Bridge into Lake Cntario. From here through the Welland Canal and the Fort Weller series of seven canals we approach Lake Erie. As we travel this broad expanse of water, we see cities looming on the shore. They are crowd- ed with industrial activity of all sorts. Then we enter the mouth of the Mau- mee Biver and down the river to the Port of Toledo. Eisenhower Lock. U. S. Army Engineers
