W t moorings at Bay View Basin. Norman Hauger Toledo With the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway a whole new vista is revealed for the Port of Toledo. The creation of one-third more seacoast will place To- ledo in the coveted position of a sea port with international contacts. Ships flying the flag of every nation will dock at this harbor and receive the manufactured and agricultural goods of inland America. Toledo will be the gateway to the sea for the thousands of people who, up to now, have been locked within the two oceanic coasts. We can safely predict Toledo's be- coming an important port because the Port of Toledo has everything to its ad- vantage. lt has a natural geographic location in the heart of America. The city is blessed with a harbor that is straight and deep. Toledo is served by S. S. Hoffman dredges Toledo Seaway Channel Toledo Blade Picture thirteen railroads, one hundred and twenty truck lines and thirteen major highwaysg thus offering complete north, south, east, and west service to the entire United States. The seaway, however, will aid To- ledo in many ways other than econ- omic. The sea has traditionally been looked upon as the bringer of wealth and adventure and these many gifts it will bring to Toledo. With our in- creased stature as a city of commerce, our educational and cultural facilites will grow. To satisfactorily fulfill these needs we must have foresight and vision. lf properly handled, the St. Lawrence Seaway will embark Toledo on a per- iod of unprecedented growth - prosperity.
