The Student Council Directs All . . . Iohn Ferch With the election of Iohn Perch as Student Council president and the selection of the commissioners last spring, the student body settled down to await the 1953-1954 school year. Early this fall the commissioners met and selected the motto Let's do more in '54. From a glance at the minutes of the meetings, one can see that they have fulfilled their purpose. First on the agenda was the Magazine Drive. Under the direction of lim Kier, Welfare Commissioner, and Dave King, Commissioner of Finance, De- Vilbiss topped all previous records by hitting the 320,000 mark. Mary Finkenbiner, Commissioner of Organizations, chartered fifty-three clubs, an all-time high. George Osborne, School Service Commissioner, and Ken Strader, Commissioner of Iustice, issued the proper penalties for the school's violators. The Commissioners of Publicity and Assemblies, Linda Mayo and Ann Penn, kept us all informed about the important events with posters and auditorium programs. The outstanding social events of the year were Revelries and the Area Student Council Dance arranged by Lois Thal, Commissioner of Social Affairs. :Kiss 5 c Z0 Dave King, Finance, lim Kier, Welfare. Schroeder. Pot 0 Gold Shines At The End 0f The Year Deadline-Deadline-These are the words that everyone on the Pot O' Gold staff hates to hear. It means for all of us a mad scramble to arrange our work in acceptable form, send it to our literary adviser, Miss Ruth Smith, and to our literary editor to be okayed before turning it over to the typist. The Business Staff, supervised by Mr. D. N. Stalker, was busy all year taking care of subscriptions for the book, keeping the records in order, handling contracts, soliciting advertising, scheduling and then meeting the schedules for photoqraphy. Thirteen of the staff members took time oft from their work to attend the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Convention in New York City in March. After the fun and excitement was over, George Roby and Karen Unfried, Editor and Business Manager respectively, made final arrangements for the editing of the eagerly awaited Pot O' Gold.
