' euetxsmrq one 5119 SPl'iUg day in 1943, a certain naval lieutenant, Louis Mathias-known herea- bouts as Louie -having been given leave from his naval duties, decided to see what the home folks were doing. A few hours later an important telegram arrived at DeVilbiss High School, where Mr. Nauts read it, and hurriedly sent for Tad and Taddy. The message he read them was a source of great excitement and flurry. Louie was on his way home! The wel- come mat was thrown out, banners were wav- ing and the band was playing when Louis arrived. And you, dear readers, are just in time, for that fine spring day is Now, and Tad and Taddy are You! Let's show Louie what our con- tribution to the war effort has been! Faculty and students alike have plenty to tell. Our members of the faculty have set commend- able examples by serving in civilian defense ac- tivities, planting victory gardens and taking X. nfhp Wo' AJ' ,..,f-Aff x-fx et's Show Louie shop courses, some even leaving to join de- fense industries and the armed services. Honors to them! And now Tad and Taddy, itls your turn. Your record includes both class room and out- side activities. You have taken part in special war time courses: aeronautics, shop, math, chemistry, and physics, to prepare you for your future parts in the war effort. You have started a Victory Corps, through which you are render- ing valuable community service. You have taken pre-induction military training. You have given your time and money inWar Chest and Red Cross activities, and have, in numerous other ways com- piled a record well worth showing Louie. What do you think of us, Lieutenant Mathias? Our part has been small, we know, but each passing week will see that part become greater until the victory is won, and you come home again-to stay!

'x I I Lt. Lows j. M aztbzas DeVilbiss made its greatest sacrifice for the war effort in giving up Louie. Formerly holding the official title of Director of Extra-Curricular Activities, as well as sharing the burdens of Senior Class Advisorship with Mrs. King, Louie was constantly engaged in directing Tad and Taddy as they planned club and social affairs of all kinds. His talents also include stage directing, our traditional DeViltries having continually owed their success to his inspiring supervision. His office, once so constantly occupied by Tadites seeking advice on all manner of things, is waiting, as is DeVilbiss, for his return from his present important duty-that of insuring the right of all young Americans to enjoy the benefits of a high school education. 6
