Their purpose is to help the faculty by monitoring studyhalls and cor- ridors, checkincg dormitory rooms, and generally to relieve them of some of their non-academic uties. Four of the prefects attend Niagara Falls Rotary Club meet- ings with the headmaster once a month, and two, Lance Brown and Don Taylor, visited Floyd Bennett Field as guests of the U. S. Air Force. 15

Their eiforts enable DeVeaux to proceed on an even keel, even though the only money we ever see is on allowance day. The DeVeaux army, long accus- tomed to a cuisine rarely found in colleges, would come to a stand-still without its kitchen staff, just as it would without its meticulous maid service and gracious nursing care. Robert Newman, 9th Grade, john Boyer, llth Grade, Secretary, Mr. Reed, Advisor, student administration, cont'd student council The Student Council this year, through the medium of a new con- stitution, made a great step forward in DeVeaux's student government. Midway through the year the coun- cil found itself bogged down, and agreed that the only solution would be to reorganize, or at least to re- vise the present Student Council system. The members then set about the difficult task of writing a new constitution. Under the direction of their faculty advisor Mr. Reed, the Council revised its membership and purposes. It is their sincere belief that this reorganization will greatly aid fu- ture student government at De- Veaux, and also improve faculty- student relationships. During the first semester it followed the same pattern as last year's committee with the membership of six seniors and six juniors. The Lounge was open only at certain hours and the committee members were scheduled to monitor it at these times. Unfortunately this system proved ineffectual, and in its stead the faculty advisor, Mr. Reed, appointed the present committee. We now have the Lounge open at all hours and the addition of a new and very popular ice cream machine. 14
