2' . J , O Q - 1- ,Q -uf? H. PROCTOR MARTIN WE HONOR . . . It is our pleasure to dedicate this 1958 edition of the CHEVRON to our class advisor, Mr. H. Proctor Martin. Mr. Martin has been an inspiration to us by precept and example, exhibiting in his own life the virtues of fairness and consideration which he has tried to instill in us. Through the wisdom obtained from twenty-eight years of teaching boys at DeVeaux School, he has guided us not only in our academic scheduling, but also in the training of our minds and character. His timely suggestions and unselfish assistance in our various projects have aided us immeasurablyg the hospitality extended by his wife and family have made the road to graduation a pleasant one. Therefore it is with appreciatixe thanks that we honor Mr. Martin by this dedication. 3

As we, the class of 1958, stand at the threshold of graduation and college, we present the 1958 Chevron as the final accounting of this, our last and best year at DeVeaux. Since it has been our privilege to use the extensive facilities of the new Memorial Gymnasium and swimming pool, athletics is our theme. Originating with the Olympic Torch on the cover and continuing through the end leaves and divider pages, we have pictured views of the new Held house to carry out the theme. The picture of the seal on the new basketball court is emblematic of this idea. Vife thank our patrons and advertisers and those who have supported our projects throughout our undergraduate years. Indeed, without their help, this, the record of DeVeaux's one hundred and fifth year, would not be possible. 2

IN APPRECIATION It is difficult to find words to express our appreciation to Mr. Donald Loker, whose efforts as advisor to the CHEV- RON have been so ably commended in years past. Nevertheless, we are conscious of the fact that without his invaluable aid and assistance, the task of assembling the 1958 CHEVRON would have been much more arduous. Wfe fully realize and appreciate the amount of time and pa- tience which Mr. Loker has so generously devoted to this project, both in an ad- visory capacity and through the photog- raphy department. Many thanks, Sir, and our best wishes for future endeavors! TABLE OF CONTENTS ' Administration . . Classes .... ' Activities ' Athletics ............... ' Patrons and Advertisers
