To a Gem of a Person Did you ever in your lifetime come across someone who dedicated much of his or her life helping others? Did you ever know someone whose sole purpose in life was to give, and try to make things better? Did you ever know someone who was so generous that you wonder how he can have so much to offer? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions you must have known Mr. Sam Williams. Mr. Williams gave so much to DeSales in his lifetime. “He felt that in helping the kids of DeSales, he was touching the future. He is never going to be forgotten at DeSales,” said Mr. Tracey. Over the years, Mr. Williams purchased numerous items for almost every department: the musical instruments in- cluding clarinets, tuba, and carpet to cut down the sound of them . . . the typewriters, science equipment, Apple He computers, ceramics kiln, sixteen volumes of the Ency- clopedia of Religion, and books for a new course, called Personal Business Management, that was recently started, a roof for the gym, and more. He was active in many areas. He was the owner of the Finger Lake Times, member of the Rotary Club, Geneva Historical Society, Geneva Country Club, American News- paper Publishers Association, Committee For the Beau- tification of Geneva, and the list goes on. He gave generous support to local churches and schools. One wonders how a man so generous could do so much for others. Why did he do it? Because this was his way of showing everyone the power and strength of his love. 6
