Mrs. Carol Marsteiner, Sr. Janet Connorton, and Ms. Doreen De Sain read a letter of congratulations for the Diamond Anniver- sary from the White House. 5 To a Gem of a Person Did you ever in your lifetime come across someone who dedicated much of his or her life helping others? Did you ever know someone whose sole purpose in life was to give, and try to make things better? Did you ever know someone who was so generous that you wonder how he can have so much to offer? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions you must have known Mr. Sam Williams. Mr. Williams gave so much to DeSales in his lifetime. “He felt that in helping the kids of DeSales, he was touching the future. He is never going to be forgotten at DeSales,” said Mr. Tracey. Over the years, Mr. Williams purchased numerous items for almost every department: the musical instruments in- cluding clarinets, tuba, and carpet to cut down the sound of them . . . the typewriters, science equipment, Apple He computers, ceramics kiln, sixteen volumes of the Ency- clopedia of Religion, and books for a new course, called Personal Business Management, that was recently started, a roof for the gym, and more. He was active in many areas. He was the owner of the Finger Lake Times, member of the Rotary Club, Geneva Historical Society, Geneva Country Club, American News- paper Publishers Association, Committee For the Beau- tification of Geneva, and the list goes on. He gave generous support to local churches and schools. One wonders how a man so generous could do so much for others. Why did he do it? Because this was his way of showing everyone the power and strength of his love. 6 DESALES PEOPLE 7 9 Mr. Fahy has been the Guidance Counselor here at DeSales for eight years. Over the years, he has helped hundreds of students deal with stan- dardized tests, college applications, class schedules, and the many other things that high school students need. He helps out the school as much as possible. The school would be at a loss without him. He would be hard to stay at DeSales for many years to come. Sr. Jacqueline Robinson was named Director of Development in October of 1987. Below, she congratulates the third generation students. Administration Mr. Tracey not only teaches History 205-206, Religion 11, and all the gym classes, he is literally the key to the survival of DeSales. Never has anyone been so devoted to the prestige of the school. Also, the appearance and rep- utation of the school is of equal im- portance to him. That’s why Mr. Tracey does all he can to make DeSales so special, one realizes his dedication when he comes to all the major sporting events with the whole family. Without him, DeSales would hardly be the unique institution he made it to be. Hats off to you Mr. Tracey! replace, so we hope he continues to Board of Trustees Board of trustees hard at work. Grammar school to High School. High School to College, Always wanting more. First it was love notes, then wandering halls, now we’re walking out the door. Our future is clouded, our memories are clear. In twenty years we’ll come back, still anticipating our entrance into De Sales since the last; Trying to recapture a realization of the past. But before all this happens, the graduation, the tears, the good-byes. We have to look at our lives, not through rose- colored glasses, but through our own eyes. And see who we’ve become, who we’ve left, and who we’re going to see. We'll see ourselves building our lives, in a different place. In a foreign land; But never forgetting where it all started — Back in kindergarten, letting go of Mommy’s hand. M.D.P. New Generation Josh Karen L. Karena Tammy 20 Michelle M. Michelle N. Nina Julie Matt Sean Mark John Carol Outstanding Optics Always Absent Believably Bizarre Fabulous Physique Master Minds Amazing Athletes Marvelously Mellow Congenial Cronies Good-Bye Childhood Who knew when we entered kinder- garten back in the mid 1970’s, that time would fly by so fast. Our cares at the time were mainly trivial; what would we bring to show and tell? What would Mom give me for snack time? Who would be my best friend and come over to play on Friday afternoon? As we grew, we learned to read, write, tell time and count money. It all seemed so hard then. Times tables, especially the nines, seemed impossible! We discovered T.V. I bet we all still have our mouseketeer ears from the Mickey Mouse Club. Saturday morning cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Woody Woodpecker, George of the Jungle, and Bugs Bunny were everyone’s favorites. Holidays were fun, especially when we did not have to go to school. Christmas was like heaven. Santa bringing us his whole toy factory. We’d go sledding on our new sleds and go ice skating. But who could forget anxiously awaiting for the snow to melt so we could ride that new two wheeler? Then, the day our parents feared and the day we vowed would never happen 24 came. The discovery of boys and girls as cute and pretty instead of yucky and gross. Our three day romances consisted of brief hand holding and writing notes that said “Do you love me?” yes or no (circle the answer). Our first kiss occurred and nothing was the same after. We got in fights with our friends and got to know more people. We learned how to play instruments and sports. Finally, eighth grade came. We were the oldest in the school and knew we were in power. We were psyched that we were going to high school next year. What most of us didn’t realize is that most of us were going our separate ways. We were going to meet new people from other schools. At first we were distant but as the years grew on, we became closer. Strangers became our best friends. Now these “strangers” are going off to college in different cities and states. We’ll always keep in touch and re- member all the memories that made our pasts so special. Goodbye childhood, onward adult- hood. The class of 1988 is ready. Bring it on. 25 Ronald Buckley “O, What a time!” Lisa Diane Chelenza “Ya big J.A. moke!” Michael Bradley “No comment!” SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Row 1: Sean Sturgeon, President; Michelle Nelsoi Treasurer. She was a member of the freshman class, and was living with the Wolfe family in Waterloo. As much as Flor learned from us during her stay, we learned from her also. She always got involved and was always trying to fit in. She took part in the nun’s chorus in the Sound of Music this Fall and she learned to sing in Latin, even when she had a hard time with her English. During breaks, she would ask our help in writing letters home to her family and we were always willing to assist. Flor gave the school a chance to experience different customs and people. She was es- pecially close to Mrs. Theimer and the Span- ish Club. They treated her to a special lunch before she left. She will be missed by all. Stacy presents Flor with a going away present from us. 48 ACTIVITIES Student Council Row 1: B. Morgan, J. O’Neil S. Hoovey, A. DeVaney, J Donahue, M. Henninger, B Fernandez. Row 2: J. Good now, B.
