We, as students of DeSales High School, know the quality and workmanship that goes into creating a “Saint.” That same dedication and hard work went into the construction of this yearbook. We feel it reflects our lives at DeSales, whether in prayer, work or play. The staff of this yearbook deliberated many days for a theme that would portray the school. When the Olympics was suggested, it seemed just what we wanted. One reason for having it as our theme is the fact that the Olympics are held in this year, of 1984, but that is not the main reason. We feel that the Olympic dream and being a DeSales Saint are alike in that we all want to be on top. That goal comes when we graduate, knowing we have the best education there is. This is accomplished with the assistance of Mr. Tracey, the faculty and our families but the biggest push comes from the Lord, Himself. For without His help, we might not have chosen the path to DeSales. There is a difference between the Olympics and a “Saint”, in that the Olympics have those who do not win because they are not good enough. This is not true at DeSales. We know that all who are here, students and faculty alike, are gold medal win- ners because we try and never give up. So throughout these pages, you will see those who try and try again but not once does the thought of giving in occur because, “We Proudly Call Ourselves DeSales Saints.” “As for Me ... I have run the great race, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. And now the prize awaits me, the garland of righteousness which the Lord, the all-just Judge, will award me on that great day; and it is not for me alone, but for all who have set their hearts on His coming appearance.” 2 Tim 4:7-8

A Parent, a Teacher, Mrs. Carol Marsteiner To us, Mrs. Marsteiner, you gave your undivided attention, with one-on-one situations in class. Through your experience and through your thoughtfulness we have excelled. You have invested in our future, expecting the dividend to come back threefold; and it will. To us, you have given your trust and your friendship. When we needed help you were there, whether it was on your lunch hour or after school. Since you believed in us, we had faith in ourselves. For us, you organized beautiful proms, our National Honor Society, and gave your support in our fund-raisers. You donated lunch time for extra labs. You are a parent, a teacher, and a friend all rolled into one. So to you, Mrs. Marsteiner, we gratefully inscribe this edition of the Salesian. We realize that these words and this paper cannot repay you for all you give, so with these pages comes the love we have built up for you during the past four years. 4
