Dedication Sister Helen Kannan d. 12 14 79 May she rest in peace Sister Helen never really retired from DeSales. Her official retirement” as Guidance Counselor was after the 77-78 school year, her seventh at DeSales. Sister’s interest in every- thing going on at school and after was unbounded. She wanted to know who was doing well in school, what teams were playing, what was the score and why don’t you know?” if the answer was not forthcoming. Her work didn’t stop either. Graduates still contacted her for references and advice. She was Mrs. Bolan’s private secretary” for the board and proud of it. Sister’s last official school act was to present the awards to the eighth graders who won the spelling bee that was dedicated to her (See page 99). All of us who knew Sister Helen Kannan are grateful to her dedication to DeSales, her faithfulness to the Sisters of St. Joseph, and her love and faithfulness to the people whose lives she touched. 2

You, me, our friends, teachers ... We all are separate people. Yet, at the same time, we are part of a whole.
