Mr. Tracey addresses students at the beginning of the candy sale. And if they shout, don't let it change a thing that you’re doing . . . Hold your head up. Mr. Edward Tracey, principal of our school, has brought new hope to DeSales High School. In the short time that he has been here, he has learned to love the school as we do, who have known it all our lives. He puts all his time and energies into giving the school a future. Not only is he prin- cipal, but teacher, advisor, janitor, planner and friend to all. We Seniors hope his dreams for DeSales come true. Mr. Tracey laughs during his Church history class. The office to which no one wants to be summoned. 7

Times and places new we know, Faces fresh and seasons strange, But the friends of long ago Do not change. Andrew Long Mr. Thomas Lavin One of the most interesting men that we encountered as freshmen, whom we considered a man of the world, is Mr. Thomas Lavin. The course he taught us, Non-Western Studies, will be long remembered. Each class was a new experi- ence. With him it seemed as though we traveled to the different countries learning what there is to know about each. Not only was the class filled with information from the book but from his own personal travels and the travels of his friends. Jokes and demonstrations were the highlights of our classes and of the day. One day we learned how tall the savannah grass is when we walked in his room and found Karen Bimbo standing on his desk. Did you know that Karen is the height of savannah grass? Another thing which we remember is his Smiling Buddha” which his brother Bernard sent him from the Far East. Buddha had a fat belty which we rubbed when we were having a bad day. It always made us smile again. Mr. Lavin's abilities reach into other fields. He has taught in our Theology department. While in France, he acted as a translator. He speaks Spanish fluently as a result of being stationed in Puerto Rico. He taught English to Latin American students in Peekskill. Mr. Lavin is originally from Ireland, where he lived on a farm with his grandparents. He attended Xavier High School located in New York City and Fordham University. Upon graduation he started his service career in the Army ROTC and worked his way toward Geneva, where he became a teacher at DeSales and eventually our Vice Principal. Although Mr. Lavin has traveled far and wide he finds the Finger Lakes region one of the most beauti- ful areas of the world. He is often seen walking his dog Dylan on the Hobart College Campus, near his home. So if you ever want to meet an interesting man take a walk over and say hi!! ”
