We at DeSales dedicate this yearbook to Chris because we feel that he is still a member of our class and we will always remember him. Chris was active in all sports. He played football with tremendous enthusiasm and he managed the basketball team. He also loved school. He worked hard at his studies and won the respect of his teachers and classmates. Chris's death was a sorrowful phase in our lives, but he made us learn that we should live a fulfilling life because it may end at an early age. And so in gratitude and love, we offer this small tribute to our dear friend. Father Leone and Mrs. Tandle participate in our Mass for Chris. 5 Times and places new we know, Faces fresh and seasons strange, But the friends of long ago Do not change. Andrew Long Mr. Thomas Lavin One of the most interesting men that we encountered as freshmen, whom we considered a man of the world, is Mr. Thomas Lavin. The course he taught us, Non-Western Studies, will be long remembered. Each class was a new experi- ence. With him it seemed as though we traveled to the different countries learning what there is to know about each. Not only was the class filled with information from the book but from his own personal travels and the travels of his friends. Jokes and demonstrations were the highlights of our classes and of the day. One day we learned how tall the savannah grass is when we walked in his room and found Karen Bimbo standing on his desk. Did you know that Karen is the height of savannah grass? Another thing which we remember is his Smiling Buddha” which his brother Bernard sent him from the Far East. Buddha had a fat belty which we rubbed when we were having a bad day. It always made us smile again. Mr. Lavin's abilities reach into other fields. He has taught in our Theology department. While in France, he acted as a translator. He speaks Spanish fluently as a result of being stationed in Puerto Rico. He taught English to Latin American students in Peekskill. Mr. Lavin is originally from Ireland, where he lived on a farm with his grandparents. He attended Xavier High School located in New York City and Fordham University. Upon graduation he started his service career in the Army ROTC and worked his way toward Geneva, where he became a teacher at DeSales and eventually our Vice Principal. Although Mr. Lavin has traveled far and wide he finds the Finger Lakes region one of the most beauti- ful areas of the world. He is often seen walking his dog Dylan on the Hobart College Campus, near his home. So if you ever want to meet an interesting man take a walk over and say hi!! ” Mr. Tracey addresses students at the beginning of the candy sale. And if they shout, don't let it change a thing that you’re doing . . . Hold your head up. Mr. Edward Tracey, principal of our school, has brought new hope to DeSales High School. In the short time that he has been here, he has learned to love the school as we do, who have known it all our lives. He puts all his time and energies into giving the school a future. Not only is he prin- cipal, but teacher, advisor, janitor, planner and friend to all. We Seniors hope his dreams for DeSales come true. Mr. Tracey laughs during his Church history class. The office to which no one wants to be summoned. 7 200 Years Later 8 The New Revolutionaries 9 FRESHMEN 4 FRESHMAN CLASS OFFICERS: Ann Kenny, Secretary; Greg Graham, Vice Pres.; Robert Sollene, Treasurer; Mark Bruno, President; Mrs. Tierney and Miss DeSain, Moderators. Our on-the-spot reporter is broadcasting live from Reale Club, owned by Becky, Kathy, and Chrissy, where the reunion is being held. I am at the doorway of the Reale Club awaiting the arrival of the guests. Here comes the President of the United States, with Vice President Pat Riley and per- sonal secretaries, Mary Beth Albert, Ludie Manion, Karen Anderson, Kathy Roxstrom, Valerie Valen- tino , and Ellen Lathrop. Body guards Duane Rapini and David Balistreri are keeping a cautious eye open after a threatening phone call to the President. However, nothing could keep him away. Now entering is General Hennessey, the nation's only five-star general. Following him is professional photographer Nancy Flynn who is covering tonight's event for UPI. Steve Visco, star of the T.V. show, Mr. Cool, Mark McDonald and Maureen Toole who are cur- rently appearing on Broadway were not able to attend tonight. All were nominated for Academy Awards and are attending the dinner. Oh! Listen. The band is beginning to warm up. Matt Venuti, leader of the band, is playing his Flugelhom. Excuse me I have just been handed a short announcement. Anyone wishing last minute dancing lessons should contact Karen Doeblin on the dance floor. Karen is the director of fine arts at Bimbsy Institute in New York, where Karen Bimbo is Dean of History. Oh no! Someone has just passed out. Is there a doctor, nurse or anyone available? Coming to the rescue are Dr. John Buckley and Barb Legott, head administrators of Bethesda Naval Hospital. The music has stopped and someone turned on the T.V. to see tonight's special broadcast live from Snake River Canyon where Anthony Midiri is mount- ing his rocket cycle for his attempt to break the world record. Following Tony’s jump there will be a preview of this year's Olympics featuring gymnasts trainer Jackie Knight. Two more members of the class of '76 are compet- ing in this year’s Olympics. Cyndy Simeone and Tina Onorato are tied for the hotdog event. Now who's this? It's Tim Peters and Dan Castor returning from a bowling match where they tied with a 900 series. Cheering them on is Rita Crisanti, a professional cheerleader. Who's that dribbling in? It's got to be Riles. Tim Riley, John Serafine and Lou Quthera are three of the starting five for the Boston Celtics. All of a sudden a hush has come over the crowd. Someone is entering with sun glasses, a hat and overcoat. Is it Columbo? No, it's Jeff Bradley, narc for the New York City Police Department. Here comes Marie D'Amico carrying the first edi- tion of the Blaze Off. On the front page is a picture of Lizzie Iannapollo, Arden Simeone, Maureen Hul- ing, co-owners of the famous Little People Nursery School. Lizzie and Maureen specialize in the teach- ing of the youngsters and Arden is speech therapist. As the school social worker, Joanne Buckley takes care of all child abuse cases. Here comes that rich-looking Chuck Kenney. Informed sources say that he is $50.00 richer after being first with a new style hair cut. Following him is John DeRaddo, owner of numerous oil fields in Oklahoma and Texas. He has been known to share his profits with many charity organizations. Gwen Furano, Sue Sullivan and Debbie Muzzi, owners of a large hospital food chain service are now arriving with Melanie Manteli their public relations manager. Word has just arrived that Lynne Crough has made the Guiness Book of World Records for her typing record of 153 words a minute. Sharon Maher, Sandy Liberatore and Jackie McCormick are racing at this moment for the new shorthand record. The odds are Sandy Liberatore 2 to 1. Expected to arrive any minute now is New York Times editor Karen Colizzi, and her assistant Carol Guerreri, who just wrote a Pulitzer Prize winning article about classmates Peter Liberatore, President of McDonald’s, and Mickey Hurley, President of Caroll's. The big moment has not yet come. All eyes are glued to the door awaiting the arrival of fashion designer Suzy Chizinski and model Mary Ann Spychalski. Rumor has it both will be wearing Chizer originals. Lawyer Thomas Wolff and his client Bob Land- school on crutches are entering now. Tom is defend- ing Bob in Bob's case to collect the million dollar insurance (claim on his foot which is broken.) Rumor has it his foot was gold plated. Entering in white between deliveries is Tom Lib--- erio, owner and manager of Pontillo's. He is step- ping up to the microphone to announce he has just witnessed an accident. Karen Bimbo just rammed her gold Cadillac into Joanne Buckley's silver Rolls in revenge for what happened at a playground 20 years ago today. Joanne who was in the car and injured in the mishap must now go to the Sullivan, Stutchkus, health spa where Julie is a technician, Cindy a dietician where she will undergo treatment. Chris Albert, president of Xavier will not be able to attend because of his heavy social calendar which is said to be more than just work. Sue Updike, hairdresser to Jackie Onasis, is arriv- ing with Beth Grau and Sandy Consolie, Presidents of - Taylor Brown Publishing which publishes yearbooks. Patty O'Byrne, Mary Polce, Debbie Conrad, and Bernadette Taney, neighbors in sunny Hawaii are giving surfing lessons in the corridor. Steve Davis just strolled in and seeing honored guest Mr. Tracey instinctively threw his cigarette to the ground. 58 Photographs and Memories —Junior Prom Jackie Knight with her escort, Mike Arden Simeone with chaperones, Sr. Janet, Mrs. Tierney, Mr. Muscato, Mrs. Florig, and Strammandinole.
