LIFE CIRCLES My life became a single circle With several people in and out' Alone, yet crowded, filled to capacity. The night was grey with restless thoughts Winding in among the bodies. Are you happy? Yes came answers. Are you really happy? Yes? whispered my brain. Happiness, yes. had more than my share. But real truth? So hard to find. Around me people lived their lives Each hour I continued to breathe and run through days one after the other — Slowly the circle began to tighten one after the other — Slowly the circle began to tighten as things to me stopped being a game. Once again I heard the whisper — Happy? Yes. but there’s something more. So I left the circle Shattered it really, and stood And laughed as the pieces flew in all directions. The sun was warm and colors were throbbing with life about me. Long ago it was, I can hardly remember Yet even today I find the pieces of circle. Now understanding Sitting and contemplating, we reminisce about the way it was — a while — Stand and look at each other freely Turn and go our ways again. Happy? whispers my mind once more. Yes. I answer, Peace and I have met — after searching all this time. Good, comes the whisper, fading now, It’s all I could have hoped for you. Nancy Maney Encased in the sand With a blanket of sunshine, Is a head and a pair of feet tanning. The neck is surrendering to a clinging dog tag, And claiming the head is a camouflage hat Protecting its captive from burning. But the wind envelopes the guard in its grasp And the face of the veteran emerges. The I ines on his countenance reveal a struggle To divide himself like the surf from the sea And find out what each might mean Like a rock that’s bombarded by both, but stands free. Debbie Long

The One Reality: Time or My Favorite Toy I had this toy one time I used to play with it everyday. Sometimes I thought I had lost it for good, But sooner or later it would turn up again. My parents used to warn me about it. I never understood what they meant. They said I was going to hurt myself, with it one day, I couldn't see how an innocent little toy could hurt. My aunt said I was wasting it, But I thought little about it. It was just there for my pleasure. One day I lost my toy. My parents were right. It did hurt. Kathy Fuchs This fragile disfigure stands alone. Inside develops a breath of life. Streams of joy flow through her While pangs of pain throb intensely. It's almost here, but when . . . how . . . and who... He leaves me to care on my own, But why. For he finds someone else's love. That which is better than mine. It's only seconds now before the day brings happiness . . . The moment has come . . . It’s a girl! The Four Winds blow the threat of war, Anarchy, Filth, Disease and more. People we must end the hate. Before we reach the Final Date. And if we are too late We will deserve that fiery fate. J. W.
