8 [tt The Senior Class of DeSales is grateful for the many years of service that Monsignor Ball and Father Nolan have given to our school. Their hard work and interest has kept Catholic educa- tion alive in Geneva. We truly hope their efforts have not been in vain.

In the middle of the night, In the middle of the road, In the middle of the snowstorm. In the middle of my youth, I stood. The snow encased my body With its downy robe, While it flickered past my nose, And suddenly I sensed it. The snow-heavy trees, The blanket-white earth, And the snow-specked sky Met my scrutinous eyes. In a storm-sparked drift I saw us. My body heaved; my heart pounded Against my ribs like an animal Caged and longing to be free, I laughed and I wept I laughed and I wept. I ran; yet I stood still. I gave and I received. I forged ahead; yet held back. I held her hand and met her gaze. My palms sweated and my nose froze. My insides jumped and my body calmed her. I loved: no — we loved. I faced her and my greedy eyes drank of her beauty. Her downy hair glittered with the snow, And her pool-blue eyes sought mine. I embraced her and she clung to me. There we stood. In the middle of the night, In the middle of the snowstorm, In a warm embrace. My nerves tightened and my eyes watered. My arms were empty. I cursed my mind, While my blank heart wept. The blue sky sparkled While the blonde snow felll I embraced it and It clung to me. Cracked hearts; angered, bitter, tongues; bright, shining, joyous eyes; glow from within. Feeling. Lilacs freshly blooming; smoked ham waving through white kitchens; spices mixed with cool air, in pantries: fresh, white, cleansed sheets blowing in sunshine filled backyards. Smell. Kathy Fuchs People so seldom say I love you and then it's either too late or love goes. But when I tell you I love you, it doesn't mean I know you'll never go, only that I wish you didn't have to. Anonymous The frozen earth is witness to the broken promise. Spring never came, but flew — Like all old songs, it died never to be again Broken — left to be burned. V. I. 10 Steve Tandle
