Traveling to Dunkirk on September 27, De Sales took on the Nlindszenty Monarchs at St. Mary's field. The first half was a see-saw battle with both teams grinding out yardage. No one scored until the closing seconds. A twenty yard Mindslenty pass play found pay dirt to make it six to nothing at the half. Fol- lowing the second half kickoff the Monarchs began to capitalize upon our newly found weakness, throwing passes from all spots on the field. This opened our defense to such an extent that they were able to build up a 39-0 final score. One of the few bright spots in this defeat was the defensive play of Mike O'Donnell, a junior, who not only intercepted two passes but also made some fine tackles. .af .ll 48, DE SALES vs. ST. JOSEPH'S On September 21, 1958, the powerful Marauders of St. Josephs Collegiate Institute invaded our home field with a seventeen game winning streak. Our determined hut inexperienced Knights fought to the wire but found themselves bested 27-0. All Catholic Ron Jackson provided the main menace for De Sales taeklers scoring four touchdowns and an extra point. However Duke Condren kept De Sales hopes high by smoothly running our offense as he completed seven of twelve passes. The De Sales defense led by Pete Dickenson, Pat Clifford and Al Musearella held St. .loe's to six points in the second hall' and also a sea- son's low in league competition. I , e...
