Y4lY' The Knights dropped a tough decision to the Timon Tigers in the opening game of the Western New York Catholic League by a score of 7-o. Although the Knights failed to score, they held their highly rated opponents and future league champions to only one TD. DeSales had a bad day in the loose ball department, as time after time their offense was Z I 1 1 'W 'li U 4 l ali' j stalled by a fumble. Mark LaForest, Jim Judge, Patsy Grossi and Paul Crane all played a great game for DeSales. a v igf' ,Sie 10 A w ,mf l The first social event of the 1952-53 school year was the Kick-off dance held by the seniors. The dance was aptly titled for it just preceded our homecoming game 'against Ryan. The old gym, where the dance was held, was decorated with blue and white streamers and chief credit goes to Mark LaiForcst, Chairmang John Car- bonara, refreshment chairmang and the other seniors who pitched in to make it the success it was. -JJ- , 3' , . i 1 I SEPTBMBBRS 5.1 2 5:13255 7, 853632181920 ii iz 25 24 25 26 37. 28293q1::::::, SEPT. 1952 1111506 - !l 96 seP1- 7-5' 1952 970 FRIDAY ' .1 4' 'T X 4 , N -. Stornelli passed to Crane and then bootlegged for the scoreg Pelletier added the extra point. In the linal quarter Crane and Dumphrey roared through to spill the Ryan ballcarrier in the end zone for a safety. Crane, Dumphrey, Villella, Judge, Reynolds, LaForest and Provenzano were other standouts in the DeSales great team victory over Ryan. y V SEPTEMBER SU S Ff - NDAY 141516 0111213 212223 17181920 282930 ?fi',52627 .. .. For the first few minutes it looked as if DeSales might be the first team to cross the Crusaders' goal. Stornelli picked up a Canisius fumble and raced 30 yards deep into Canisius territory. But there the big Canisius line held. Late in the game, DeSales' second team gave a good showing of themselves. Brown's aerial to Cook brought the ball close to paydirt, but the game ended too soon. Villella, Provenzano, Dumphrey, Pelletier and Judge all played well for the Knights. 58 X l x , ff' 2+ 1 , . ,U 1, , lj ' vw-'ig' ' 'P .Q M ,,,. The Knights drew first blood when Dick Stornelli fired a long pass to jerry Bucolo for a TD. Duffy came back to score twice and led at the end of the first half, 13-6. Bucolo, Jim Judge, Joe Proven- zano Nini Villella, Norm Puff and Mark LaForest played a Q great game for the Black Knights. 1' .. .4 A I2 yard run in the first period spelled a 6-o defeat for the Black Knights in a rough game at Buffalo. The Knights completely dominated play in the second, half and scored a touchdown that would have been the margin of victory or, at least, a tie. Dave Furlong, who played a terrific game for the Knights, worked the ball to the nine yard line, then to the four. Don Pel- letier smashed over for a TD but the officials called the play back because the yard line markers were down. Many DeSales players were injured on the rough gridiron. Jim Tuohey, Molce Reynolds, and Joe Dumphrey received painful injuries. Dave Furlong, Paul Crane, Nini Villella, Joe Dumphrey and Don Pelletier starred for DeSales in what should have been a victory or tie for the Knights. We realize, however, that our work would amount to nothing without the help of so many others and so we are deeply grateful to Miss Ruth M. Lanighan, our ofiice secretary, who spent so many hours working on the lay-out of the book and typingg to Eugene Lanighan, '54, who so willingly and capably took pictures of our activities when Fr. Gradel was unable to be presentg to Mr. Robert Calcarone and Mr. Albert Sillato of Don Jay Studios, Inc. for their promptness and cooperationg to all our Patrons and Advertisers without whose Financial help the yearbook would be an impossibilityg to the girls of St. Joseph's Academy who are always ready and willing to support all things DeSalesg and to the other seniors and the rest of the student body of DeSales for their excellent cooperation. ..,,m,, A 1 ,fp , XL!
