' -1. , Varsity Gymnastics Team: Kate Coyne, Peggy Hennigan, Janet Klenk, Kim Ryals, Donna Cochran, Lisa Crain Two Qualify For The USGF State Meet 1978-79 found the gymnastics team full of enthusiasm and ready for a winning year. Four J .V.'s moved up to the varsity team and seven new girls joined the J.V. ranks. Michelle Thomas returned as manager. DHS competed in three dual meets and four invitationals. At the Ark.-La.-Tex. Meet in Shreveport, two dragons placed in the top six of 128 competitors with scores of 8.25. The West-Sectional State Qualifying Meet held in Monroe was completely dominated by the DHS varsity, winning ll of 15 places. Crain and Klenk qualified for the USGF State Meet. DHS Gymnasts competed in three dual meets: Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Carencro High Schools. Because of injuries and illness the young inexperienced team members had to carry the load. This gave the J.V.'s the experience they will need for next season. Four gymnasts will graduate: Janet Klenk, Peggy Hennigan, Kate Coyne, and Manager Michelle Thomas, but they will not forget: Catfish Junction, trying to move the horse, falling on their head and all the aches and pains.
