Future Homemakers of America is a national organization for girls studying homemaking in high school in the US., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. FHA provides opportunities for students to have additional experiences in planning and carrying out activities re- lated to homemaking. Any student who is taking a Home Econom- ics course can enroll. This year. the club sold cookbooks and gave a Sadie Hawkins Day Dance. participated in the Beauregard Parish Harvest Day Festival. and visited the patients in the Fort Polk hospital. Social activities included a slumber party. a mother-daughter banquet and vvork days for parade floats. Funds were used to buy equipment for the department. The Student Council is composed of thirty- four students elected by the school. Seniors must hold the presidential and vice-presidential offices. while eight people from each class are elected as members. These representatives are then divided into committees headed by a chairman. John Marcello. Lazetta Evans. Vincent Zebeau. Karen Everett. and Jayne Bellando head the committees. This year the council had a varied list of activities. These included a continuing sale of football and basketball pins. a dance and Student-Teacher Day. in which students took over the roles normally performed by the teachers.
