M ,iw , Leon Hugh Danny Johnson Bozeman Geroy Students arent the only ones who have spirit. ln August the 1974 version of the Delftidder Dragons took the prac- tice field with a spirit of dedication. pride and a willingness to work hard. With this attitude the Dragons were able to field the first win- ning team at Delfiidder High School in the last ten years. The Dragons opened the season on the road playing in the New Iberia Jamboree, where they played the host Yellow-Jackets to a 7-7 tie. The regular season got under way in Delftidder the following week when the Dragons upset their archrivals from Leesville 28-6. Not accustomed to winning. plus a failure to prepare for the ever- strong Wlnnfield Tigers, saw the Dragons return to reality to the tune of a 20-O loss to Winnfield. The following week the Dragons traveled to Jennings to do battle with the Bulldogs. The game was a hard-fought seesaw battle with the Dragons coming away with a 17-12 victory. Game four marked the beginning of district play for the Dragons captured their victory ever in the Quad-A ranks with a 28-O victory over the Alexandria High Trojans. Game five saw the Dragons outplay the state-ranked Sulphur Golden Tors in all departments except the Scoreboard. The fired- up Dragons outplayed the Tors. but made two costly mistakes which enabled the visitors to gain a 17-6 victory. Victory four came for the Dragons against the LaGrange Gators in Lake Charles. After a scoreless first half the Dragons put it together in the second half to claim a 10-O victory. Homecoming was sweet for the Dragons as they claimed victory five of the year with a 27-7 win over the visiting Gents from Crowley. The following week was not so sweet for everything went sour for the Dragons as they could do no right and Barbe could do no wrong in the 20-0 shutout of the Dragons. Game nine found the Dragons in Westlake where they made the Rams' homecoming a disaster with a 35-13 victory over the host eleven. The final game of the season saw the Dragons eliminated from the state play-offs by a 12-12 tie with the strong Lake Charles Wildcats. The Dragons were disappointed in not making the state play- offs, but proud as they can be of a good year with a 6-3-1 record. The 1974 Dragons mark the beginning of a new era and a challenge to the teams of the future-to pay the price that is re- quired ofa winner. i Wow! Did you see that fantastic play we just made?
