20 From Simon T0 Shakespeare From Chicago To Russia Theater Productions Entertain And Educate Throughout the year, students put their acting skill and training on stage in a variety of Little Theatre and Duzer Du productions. Some shined and others fell flat, but all offered a needed cultur- al entertainment on the weekends. The actors in Boys in the Band and Sexual Perversity in Chicago ex- plored the complexities of sex and rela- tionships. Dan Stevens wrote and pro- duced Fraternity which portrayed the life in a fraternity on a small mid- western campus. On fall parents weekend, parents could watch Blithe Spirit and on spring parents weekend, they could enjoy the Shakespearian comedy Twelth Night. The Good Doctor, a Neil Simon play, dramatized several of Anton Chekov's short stories. One highlight of the season was Candide, a musical opera that stu- dents pulled together over Winter Term. Another highlight was Antigo- ne Too directed by visiting director Bette Howard. The chorus of the play consisted of 17 reincarnated women from history famous for their acts of civil disobedience. About April, things began to jump around the campus, and students, . administrators and faculty members questioned if this truly could be mild- I mannered DePauw University. It started Friday, April 26 when trust- ees, administrators and townspeople donned gold-colored construction hats and gathered for the ground- breaking of the $3.8 million Country inn. Construction of the 55-room hotel began shortly thereafter behind Asbury Hall. The beeps and grinds of bulldoz- ers were heard from then on in Asbury . classrooms - which didn't thrill the professors or students. L The investors however, were happy. Alum Donald Daseke said, It has truly been a team effort and a labor of love for all of us. And University President Richard Rosser remarked, It is really going to be an outstanding addition and is an indication of the potential of this town. in other construcion news, faculty in Asbury started pack-in their belong- ings in anticipation o the building's i repairing, refinishing, redecorating and redesigning.
