'Mud, Air Bands, Picnics, Tricycles, Pink - It Has To Be Little 500 Weekend The entire campus seemed to halt. Students pushed the books aside to revel in the spring weather and cele- brate the most popular annual event e Little 500 Weekend. A succession of ac- tivities organized by the Union Board kicked off the week. Living units were paired for some tusuallyl friendly com- petition. They ripped up the grass by East College in the mud volleyball games and the tug-of-war matches. They tied up the street in front of the Union Building in the mini 500 contest. Thursday night, the campus was rocked by the sounds of the General Public concert. Friday night, students flooded Kresge Auditorim for Cyclerama Sing to see just how talented those fraternities, so- 18 Little 500 Weekend Lynn Cameron rorities and dorms could be. No one will forget Hogate's and Theta's spoof of USA for Africa titled We are De- Pauw e the winning act. But it all comes down to the race. The winners of the other events can be forgotten, but the victors of the bike race are assigned to the history books. The pink racers reigned in this year's race as Fiji and Theta captured the tro- phy's for the men's and women's races. Fiji racers, dressed in flourescent pink uniforms, shot ahead in the sixth lap and maintained first until the end. Delt raced to second place, and ATO came in third. Theta, also dressed in pink, led the bikers the whole way. DC. won sec- ond, and Pi Phi captured third in a tight battle for second place.

20 From Simon T0 Shakespeare From Chicago To Russia Theater Productions Entertain And Educate Throughout the year, students put their acting skill and training on stage in a variety of Little Theatre and Duzer Du productions. Some shined and others fell flat, but all offered a needed cultur- al entertainment on the weekends. The actors in Boys in the Band and Sexual Perversity in Chicago ex- plored the complexities of sex and rela- tionships. Dan Stevens wrote and pro- duced Fraternity which portrayed the life in a fraternity on a small mid- western campus. On fall parents weekend, parents could watch Blithe Spirit and on spring parents weekend, they could enjoy the Shakespearian comedy Twelth Night. The Good Doctor, a Neil Simon play, dramatized several of Anton Chekov's short stories. One highlight of the season was Candide, a musical opera that stu- dents pulled together over Winter Term. Another highlight was Antigo- ne Too directed by visiting director Bette Howard. The chorus of the play consisted of 17 reincarnated women from history famous for their acts of civil disobedience.
