ttDigf That New Gym?! On a chilly November day, the 10th to be exact, hundreds of students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and friends of the University gathered on the vacant lot 'next to the Science and Math Center to break ground for the new Lilly Physical Education and Recreation Center. Presi. dent Richard F. Rosser, Student Body President Shea Nickell, and others spoke at the ceremonies. Observers and golden balloons outlined the building plan. Imme- diately after the firing of a Revolutionary War cannon, the balloons were released, spades entered the muddy ground for the first time, and state and local television focused on the action. Philanthropies . . One must take time to think about oth- ers that are less fortunate. DePauw,s many philanthropic programs donate ' time and money toward worthwhile causes, and the students have fun at the same time. The Sigma Chits held a week long trampoline marathon in memory of a brother. Their battle to attain money for leukemia proved successful as they sur- passed their $10,000 goal. The Tri Del- ta,s put on a spaghetti dinner and the Alpha Omicrom Pi women plunged into their annual blood drive. These efforts are well worth the satisfaction received from the unselfish giving.
