Old Gold 1979 was an exciting time for everyone! There was so much to do and to see - the game, the floats, the par- ties, and friends old and new. It was a special time for the alumni who flocked back to their alma mater, 0P DPU, for the weekend. It was a time filled with reac- quaintance and nostalgia. Even with a Ti- ger loss to Valparaiso, 6-0, spirits re mained high. As the crowd cheered her on, senior Delta Gamma, Patty Stevens was crowned Old Gold Queen. As the beauti- ful day drew to a close, many tired alumni journeyed home with more DePauw memories to add to their collections. ttDigf That New Gym?! On a chilly November day, the 10th to be exact, hundreds of students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and friends of the University gathered on the vacant lot 'next to the Science and Math Center to break ground for the new Lilly Physical Education and Recreation Center. Presi. dent Richard F. Rosser, Student Body President Shea Nickell, and others spoke at the ceremonies. Observers and golden balloons outlined the building plan. Imme- diately after the firing of a Revolutionary War cannon, the balloons were released, spades entered the muddy ground for the first time, and state and local television focused on the action.
