His main problems- meeting alumni all over the U.S., raising money, solving campus problems, the calendar and curriculum reform . . . the list is endless. But the most important thing is . . . After months of preparation, Dr. William E. Kerstetter was inaugurated on Old Glory Day as DePaqu sixteenth president. The rare and important event attracted educa- tors to Greencastle from throughout the academic realm- the University of Rome, Harvard, the University of Hawaii, and 300 other institutions and interested organiza- tions. Students, faculty, administrators, trustees and the invited representatives formed the lengthy academic procession. Glenn Thompson, chairman of DePauwhs Board of Trustees and Visitors, presented Dr. Kerstetter to Bishop Richard Raines of the Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church who charged him to the presidency. Dr. Hurst Anderson, president of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, added color to the - occasion in his main address. A hBird contest supplemented the old favor- ites which included the bucket brigade, egg toss, suitcase race, and the men and womenis legs contest. The tug of war was won by the upperclassmen forcing the pledges to wear their ihpots for several more weeks. DG- ATO captured top honors while LucyeLambi da Chi won second place. Rector 1, 2, 3- Roberts, Kappa-Deke, and Tri-Delt-Sigma Nu tied for third. 'i M- 10;...
